I have a 97 SE 5 spd w/ a Stillen muffler, and a Stillen intake on order. I got some questions about a Y pipe

Would a Y pipe combined with the intake and exaust make it considerably faster? Any HP estimates?

Would the Y pipe screw with the emmisions systems? (Like Check Engine light on...)

How much for a Stillen Y pipe? Is it worth it?

Thanks everyone

definately. the Y Pipe yields a good hp per $$ spent compared to all other mods (except NOS). 15-20 hp.. dyno proven.

emissions shouldn't be a problem if the car is running good overall. The main cats will do their job of reducing NOX levels among other things.

Answer

An aftermarket y-pipe is probably the best mod for the buck. It gives you the most hp than any other mod that you can do, other than a forced induction system. Y-Pipe gains are estimated to be between 10-20 hp, depending on the y-pipe. The y-pipe combined with the intake and a better exhaust would give you a pretty "quick" Maxima. You will DEFINETELY notice the differnece on acceleration. You will have a on your face no matter what. The y-pipe will not "screw" with emissions. What the aftermarket y-pipe does is it eliminates the two pre-catalytic converters and also eliminates the "non-smooth" curves within the stock y-pipe. When you get your car emissions tested, your emissions output will be higher than you are used to, but it will be in the very safe range. It is, however, recommended that you run the car a little bit before you get your car tested, this will allow the y-pipe to warm-up a bit. And, when installed right, you will NOT get a Check Engine Light. You can currently purchase a Stillen y-pipe for about 300-350 dollars, however, you should consider the Cattman Y-Pipe. It comes in a Stainless Steel version, so it wil not rust. Although, it is a bit pricey, It is about 375-425 dollars, but it will be worth it, believe me. Anyways, I hope this answers your questions.

I have one on a '97

I totally concurr with Ramius. You will definately feel it and hear it. I don't think it's really that loud, but the tone is great. It will take you at least a week before you drive normal and don't gun it from every stop.
