ECU Codes PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hey all. I did read the locked thread about ECU diagnostics proseedure, but the website where it suppose to diagnose the ECU codes doesnt work for some reason. ANYWAYS. I get 2 codes. one is 04 01 and second one is 03 04. Does anyone know another website where I can get the answers, or did anyone encounter these codes yourself before? If so please help. Thanks in advance.

Re: ECU Codes PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Try this one: http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecudecoder.html .
BTW, my first 95 Maxima SE has the same exterior/interior (leather) color as yours. I loved that car!

Thats the link that I tried before. It opens everything up. But as soon as I press decode button, nothing happens. And in the status bar of Internet explorer it says ERROR ON PAGE. Bleh. Sux. Thanks for reply tho, and yes I love the interior/exterior color combo

It works just fine on mine. Perhaps your browser's java feature is disabled. Go to TOOLS and INTERNET OPTIONS, and then ADVANCE. Then scroll down til you see USE JAVA APPLET or something like that and check- mark it.

If you still can't here is what your codes mean:
04-01 = Intake Air Temp Sensor
03-04 = Knock Sensor

Hope this helps!

I believe the knock sensor is located between the cylinder banks, under the exhaust manifold. If you are looking at your engine from the front bumper, its on the right side under the exhaust manifold. Last time I did this, it was a major pain in the butt because there's very little room for a socket or wrench to get into. Also, if you haven't done so, use higher octane gas preferably 92+ octane. If you use regular gasoline all the time, your engine could be pinging enough for the sensor to pick up. These sensors are piezoelectric elements which senses vibration pressure and converts this to a voltage signal and sends it to the ECM. The ECM, in turn, processes the info and adjusts the ignition timing and fuel mixture to prevent knocking. This naturally affects your car's MPG and performance. These sensors aren't cheap, they are around $250 the last time I had to do this on the other Maxima I had a few years ago.

Good luck!

Fix the air intake sensor first, very good possiblility that the KS is going off due to that other code. Same thigns for most of the other sensors too, they are piggyback codes. =P

2DaMax: Thanks for very descriptive info.

D1NOnly34: Its not that simple to fix my air temp sensor. I have it unplugged because of my CAI. Its an Injen type but its not made by Injen. I bought it off a girl from California, and it is a custom made, design is exactly like an Injen CAI. When I plugged my air temp sensor in it, my maxxie was jerking very hard when I was pressing gas, wouldnt go pass 2k rpm unless i floored it. Gas milage was horrible at that point with air temp sensor hooked up. Car felt like it would stall on my but it didnt just dropped the rpm below the idle and then come back again to random rpm number. I unplugged the air temp sensor, and closed the hole with electrical tape and now everything is fine besides freaking engine light on.
