Tint Over Tint?

Just wondering if, in order to make my tint darker, it is advisable to apply tint over the tint (factory) I already have?
Thanks,
Matt

i remember seeing someone's blue maxima on a cardomain site from here...the max was very dark blue, and it was from Texas. There were pictures of it on the grass behind what looked to be a supermarket parking lot. The car was on the grass in most of the pictures, and had really nicely tinted windows which i believe were black and then silver (two films, one on top of the other). It looked really nice. Sorry I dont remember the name of the org member.

First off, learn to use periods and commas. Second, TURN OFF THE CAPS!

Hey whats up? I too have been wondering if I can put another layer of tint on my car. I have 30% on the front and 20% on the rears and I want to make it all at least 10% or less. How do you calculate what % the second layer should be? I may just have the old tint removed and start over but I won't if this is an option.
Thanks
Ian

Thanks for the response,
Right now the tint lets quite a bit of the light through (I can easily see the color difference between my rear deck , grey, and my seats, black leather). I'd thought about doing silver beneath my existing tint but was not sure whether it was feasible. That Max looks GREAT with the two tints; thanks for finding the page.
Cheers,
Matt

I like my tint's although its impossible to drive at night with your windows up without practice. I've got 3% all around just 1 layer though.

tints are nice for show cars and all, but ever wonder why the car on the highway at night suddenly starts coming into your lane and almost side-swipes you? probably because their tints are too damn dark...windows are windows and are meant to be seen through...not painted with 3% darkness that doesnt even allow you to see properly at night. I dont agree with the laws in my state for tints (NY) where you are allowed basically nothing but the factory tint, but I DO believe that getting THAT dark (3%, 5% and such) DOES create a risky situation when trying to drive at night.

I agree i honestly wouldn't recommend 3% to anyone, not even 5, the legal limits of 27% back and 35% front (for florida) seems reasonable to me. I love the way my car looks with the dark as tints and it gets it share of compliments, but night and even rainy day driveabilty has went down alot. This was the first time i got a car with tints so i just picked by looks not actually thinking how hard it would be to drive.

true when i had my honda i had 5% on the rear doors, backglass, and visor, and 20% up front, this was cool and all, and i could see a lil bit, but then i made the front windows 5%, and i mean in the night i couldnt even see out of my drivers window into my sideview mirror, i would have to put the window down and look behind my car, and see if the coast was clear. that **** was dangerous, i almost ran over my brother cuz i couldnt see him behind me one nite too. so be very careful with these tints. on another occasion, i was at a party and i was backing up and i bumped into someones unattended car, cuz i didnt see it.... take heed to the warning. but thank god, i never got a ticket for my tints. btw, I live in Miami.

Speaking of which thats another thing, i got a ticket for mine about 2 months ago, basically you can pay 44 bucks and keep your tints till the next ticket or you can pay 5 bucks and show your car to a cop after you remove the tints, i chose 44 bucks, i figure my tints cost me around 120 so until the tickets equal that its in my interest to keep them.

but can u tint over tint? like right now i got 35%s all around, and i want darker, much like euromax in the pic^, so is it best to remove the tints and just get them done over, or can i just tint on top of these?

well i got a quote of $100 to take the old off and $150 to put new on, but thats a little more than I would like to spend. However, it looks like thats what im going to be doing eventually. Or I may try and take the old off when the time comes.

That's Stan's car...it's actually a black Max though. He doesn't have a single problem rolling his windows up nor down...so whatever.

most tint shops wont tint over tint mainly because the old tint will start to turn purple from the sun after awhile. if you do get a shop to tint over old tint they probably wont give you a reciept for the warranty because they wont honor it in the future if the tint messes up. I tinted my windows on my car myself and taken the old tint off is not easy but not impossible the hardest window is the rear the rest are pretty easy. the rear is hard because of the defrost lines. taken it off yourself will save you money in getting your windows done. i have 20% in the front and 2% in the back and I love it.

Stan has a bud that does tinting so I really doubt it's a prob for him.

And not all tint turns purple...the cheaper kinds do, which is the majority of tint jobs a couple of years ago. There is better tint out there.

true that, just info on what may be claimed by the tint shops and it is great that he has a friend that can tint real good that will save him a lot of money. i saved a friend of mine at least a hundred dollars tinting his windows for him before he moved to vegas.
