Run in with a Saab Viggen

Last night I was coming home from a BBQ and had an interesting run with a Saab Viggen. I was on a deserted 4 lane road about 2 blocks from my home (it was about 3am). My girlfriend and her roommate were in the car with me. Anywho, I was doing about 40 mph when I saw some HIDs closing on me. The Saab pulls up next to me and downshifts so I could hear his BOV. Already in 3rd gear, I drop to second and start to pass him up pretty quickly. I got up to around 90 mph and had a 3 car length lead on him. At this point, his car hits full boost and he starts to gain on me. I shut down at about 100 mph and had a 1/2 car lead on him. I'm sure that if we kept on going, he would've passed me easily. I was very impressed by a Saab that could hang with the VQ. Here are the stats on the Viggen:
230 hp
250 ft/lb
0-60:6.4 seconds
1/4 mile: 14.7 @97mph

that sabb comes turbo'ed, i think they all do and with those stats, they can beat a stock maxima and keep up with a descently modded on as well. With your mods, you should have barely edged him

i'm looking u should be running 14.3-14.7 with your mods if u were a good driver

At upper speeds at full boost, that car was very quick. He was going to pass me with no problem. The best I've run at the track was 14.6. However, the Saab was not very impressive in the low-end.

if it was brand new then it has a weezy ecotec 4cyl engine from a saturn thats been turboed. Just goes to show what a turbo can do.

Are you sure about that? Now I feel bad that I almost lost to a Saab powered by a Saturn engine.

If it was a Viggen, then it was an pre 03\04 Saab. The new ones have no hatchback and have new model names: linear, arc, vector. So it was one of the older saabs with a true saab engine. Does that make you feel better?

The funny thing was that the driver of the Saab was an old man easily in his 50's. The other night, another old man in a S55 AMG tried to instigate a race with me but I let him go because I knew he would hand me my a$$ in a heartbeat.

A Saab Viggen is not a slow car by any means. For some reason those cars have a first gear that is tall as hell which hampers their 1/4 mile times but once moving they haul ***. From a roll I'd expect to be beaten by a stock Viggen. This is with MEVI and JWT ECU. They are no joke.

BTW if you heard a BOV for real that car wasn't stock, they come with a bypass valve stock wbich releases pressure right back into the intake tract and is virtually silent.

Vigen are quick. Period. Don't bother comparing the 1320 times. Just compare the traps and it will show who walks who in top end. I personally wouldn't mind driving one. Doesn't look bad at all.

Saab = Some A$$hole Actually Bought it. THat is "my" ol' saying.

This car looked pretty sweet. It had a nice, low stance with some nice wheels. His engine sounded sweet and I'm sure he wasn't stock. Between 90 and 100 mph, he gained almost three car lengths on me. If we would've kept on going, he would've probably had 6 or more car lenghts on me. The 3rd gear on the Max was what gave me my quick lead. To say the least, I was very impressed. Before, I thought that Saab made cars only for quirky college professors but I guess times have changed at Saab.

Who cares?!! I have a 2.0 saab turbo right now (no viggen but quick), and yeah it was faster than my old maxima(while it was working) with a few mods. But they break down ALL the time!! I have a bad rear main seal, turbo isn't boosting properly, and blown headgasket. Junk! Getting rid of it and possibly getting a 98 gxe 5spd this week.

i was in the same situation last week, but you had a fast car, all i had to beat was a 97 accord that looked like it could haul my ***, but unfortunatley, that **** was slow *** ****, couldve passed for stock to me, i doubt it was, but if you see an accord looking like a fast and furious car, driving like stock, and my car can bat it? WOW take a look at my car and you will understand why im going crazy lol

I raced one a few years ago. the guy was a lunatic. he had his two little kids in the car. Anyways, he was in front of me and with every shift he would slowly pull away from me up to about 110. he gave me the thumbs up and we went our seperate ways.

Don't worry about the loss, you had two 350 pound passengers in the car.

My girlfriend weighs in at about 115 and her roommate is no bigger than 125 lbs. Oh yeah, if someone the size of your Mom was in the car with me, then my car would be way TOO heavy and I would've defintely lost.
