*clunk* sound when turning sharp left

I hear a *clunk* sound when I turn sharp left. (it seems like it's only when I turn left)
The sound seems like it's coming from the driver's side wheel area, or somewhere near the clutch.
I think I was also braking while turning left every time I've heard the sound.
Any ideas on what this could be?

How much does that cost to have done at a shop or dealership?
Can I do it myself?

Definately a shot strut mount. My 95 does the same thing when turning right (or turning either way when reversing).

The estimate I just got was for $562. (this included $300 for new front struts, however. Simply replacing the mounts would be $262.) Since they have to take the struts off to get to the mounts, I thought they might as well be replaced.

I'm looking at the situation as a sign: take the opportunity to install new KYB's!

Get a Haynes or Chilton manual and do them yourself. They are fairly easy. I did them on mine.

Yeah I have a Chilton's manual already so I'll probably do them myself. How long have you guys had this problem? Will it cause more problems if left alone?
To Maxima95Tuner......how long did it take you to replace the mounts? How much did it cost for the parts?
What tools do you need?

To s0ber......sorry I missed all these posts, I was in the garage waxing.

I've had mine about three months now. Mechanic advised me that it was just an annoyance, and would not cause other problems. The mounts have bearings in them; they act as another form of shock absorber. Often, the bearings start to go bad, making noise, but not affecting the ride at all. You're not jeopradizing anything else if you have to put off the repair for a little while.

well..........I'm going to have my car for another 2 years, until I graduate college. Then I will get a 2K3. So are you saying that I could just leave it alone until I get rid of the car?
BTW, I drove home from work today and actually tried to get it to make that noise, and it wouldn't. Is this just showing that the mount isn't completely shot yet?

After a while, is it going to make noise on every left turn?
