4 speed auto people.....quick question Post your idle speeds

Njmaxseltd said that an auto should idle in drive about 6-650, and in nuetral/park- about 750. Mine idles at 500 or just a hair above 500. I was able to lesson the vibration I was experiencing after replacing the spark plug that was messed up with a new one-its crazy how slight imperfections in a plug can translate to engine performance- these engines are very sensitive it seems. Right now my car idles at around 675-700 in park. if i were to lightly press the accelerator to about 750-775, would this be a good indication of how the car will feel after adjusting it using the screw? Sorry if this is a dumb question- also please post your idle speeds in park and drive. I want to eliminate this shake completely. Does anybody here idle at 500 with no shake? Thanks guys

Isnt 500 too low? When you say- no shake- do you mean no violent shake or that you don't even feel the wheel lightly pulsating? Is the wheel practically dead? When these cars come from the factory- what do they come at.... idle at 500 or 650? Maybe the car is supposed to be at 500 but there is something else that is still causing the slight shake.

me thinks:

DRIVE (under no load) --> 650
DRIVE (under load) --> 550?
PARK (under no load) --> 800-ish
PARK (under load) --> 750-ish

these are all guesses...but good guesses!

warmed up under no load: 750 RPM
Warmed up under load: 1000 RPM

Did a TB cleaning about a month ago. Not as thorough as the first time, but enough to drop my idle by about 200 RPM.

While you are cleaning your TB, you should clean your IACV as well. I highly recommended. It’s very dirty after 30K driving.

There is a black plastic screw on the idle intake thing. Just grab a phillips screw driver and turn it, i dont remember which way, but thats it. If you dont know where the IACV (or whateveryou want to call it) there is a hose coming off the resonator or mid pipe (what ever u got) that goes to it.

the car should be running...

also, this screw really shouldn't get too adjusted...I think that
the screw is set at the factory, and shouldn't really be moved...

personally, I think that if your car DOES have an issue causing
a low idle that you should try to fix it (rather than mask it).

just my $0.02,

Before doing idle adjusting, you should first clean your TB and IACV. It smoothed out the idle for me. You need to buy a TB cleaner and take apart the TB and IACV and gun it.

i don't think anything is wrong with my car but to me i think that the idle is just a little low. the car runs fine and doesn't shake at all.

thanks for all the reply, Freddie
