just how much difference in noise does the Y-Pipe make? I have a 95 SE and I want to add some horses but I don't want to sound like a rattle can roll'n down the road! Any personal experiences? I don't mind the noise if its a deep throaty sound, I just don't want to sound like those Hondas with lawn mower exhausts on the back!

From my experience, you can have the Y pipe, intake, and b pipe without much noise when cruising. WOT there will be a low rumble from the intake and a slight hiss form the y pipe. The key to keeping it quiet is the muffler. I went back to the stock muffler!

Stillen is LOUD. Probably the loudest of all exhausts available for the Maxima. There is no resonator on the Stillen one. I have a Greddy on mine. I have no complaints. If you want a low mellow sound, go with Greddy or Apex'i.

From what I hear. The stillen exhaust drones. So your car will have a constant rumbling sound.

The GReddy drones, to the point of becoming annoying, but the Stillen is unbearably loud. Retaining the stock muffler remains the best option.

Noise from Y-pipe

Yes, they are louder than stock. Alot of the noise comes from the increased flow from switching the rear down pipe around so it enters the system with its flow going rearward, not against the flow as in the stock y. If you retain your stock muffler it is not going to be THAT loud. If you already have a Stillen system, WarpSpeed offers a 2.5" SS resonator that is not very restrictive and quiets it down by about 25%, $40 shipped to your door. I have one on my complete WarpSpeed system. Now my girlfriend will ride with me. Hope this helps.

Dan: the resonator is $40 for an aluminized version the stainless is more.

I swear I am going to really have to watch your posts even closer.

Hey maxfreak_98

I've got the same intake/exhaust as you. My latest addition was a Courtesy b-pipe (with sm resonator). After adding that I've got lots of noise.

First a rattle right around the RT Cat til it warms up. Then noise under all throttle, even light throttle not just WOT. At certain RPM's (1600, 2400, 2800, etc) when I let up it's a load groan.

Who's mid-pipe are you using? Have you had noise like I'm hearing?

I don't have a mid pipe, should I?

also, I have not installed the exhaust or the Y-pipe yet, so I'm not sure of the sound difference. I'll probably install them tomorrow (Tuesday)! Should I wait for a mid pipe? also, where can I find some O2 sensors? from the dealership?

I also have the Courtesy B pipe. Other than the slight hiss from the y pipe (2000-2350 rpm's), it's quiet under normal throttle. I'm MUCH happier with the car since I removed the aftermarket muffler (Nakayama) last month.
I did have a problem with one of the RT cats. One of the bricks inside came dislodged and started rattling.
Sounds like you may need to bring the car to a muffler shop just to make sure everything is tight.

Loudness of Stillen Muffler

I had a Stillen Muffler on my 97 Maxima and it wasn't loud at all. I put a Tsudo exhoust on an it sounds great! It's loud but it sound good with the intake.

Kinda what I expected. My exhaust shop rewelded the flanges on the RTCat to fix the original leaks. I wonder if something came loose inside. I've had trouble getting the car back in - guess I'm just gonna have to leave it.

Thanks for the advice!
