I've searched all previous strings for help on finding cheap hood lift supports, but none of them have helped me to actually FIND replacement units for my '97 SE. Locally, I've tried NAPA, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and Advance Auto with no luck anywhere. Can anyone provide a REAL source with REAL part numbers? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

not to make light of your need but if you don't want to shell out the cash, a small vise grip works great.

The cold weather affects the supports, but do a quick search for the answer, b/c someone else has asked those same ?'s. Or try Dave Burnette at South Point Nissan in Austin for fairly priced stock replacements.

Hood Lift Support Help

I'm trying to avoid paying $70 to $100 bucks a pop for Nissan replacements. The factory supports only lasted about 2 years, so I hate to use those again. I also want to have REAL hood supports, the vise grip idea is great for a temporary fix. A search on all previous messages hasn't led me to find a real replacement, just temporary fixes or non-existent part numbers on web sites! Maybe I'll just live with the problem!

I live in Austin, and David Brunette is a great guy...very professional. Give him a buzz and see what his price is....I'm going to. Seems like this is a regular problem for the Maxima's. From 3rd gen to 4th gen. They were like 70 to 75 at the dealer regularly priced(each). Dave might be able to help out....

PartsAmerica.com lists Strong Arm #4524 for this application. Unfortunately, this item is flagged "special order" and they don't list a price.

Thanks to all in advance for the help! Daniel...I'll try the Partsamerica Strongarm part you suggested. That was the same brand that Advance Auto showed in their computer, but didn't stock anywhere, including their main warehouse. I'm hoping that Sachs NA will eventually make a replacement strut for the 4th generation Maximas. They have a new design that is not affected by cold weather. Thanks again!

Hey Goldmax

Let us know if you find anything out...I think there's quite a few people here who need replacement hood supports, me of course, being one of them.

Re: Hey Goldmax

Hey Max I Am....

I have an email into a Sachs North America subsidiary that I found on the web yesterday. They are making lift supports now that aren't affected by the cold (per Motor Week on PBS). They supply Pep boys with lift supports.
We'll see what they have to say! Will let you know what I come up with. Feel like I'm on a search for the holy grail!
