BOSCH platinum plugs SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

My 1998 I30 has had a bit of hesitation for a while now and I couldnt figure out why. I has changed the fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, even replaced the plugs with bosch platinums. I bought the stupid things because the parts guy at the store said they were as good as OE, boy was he wrong! After about 5k miles of driving the electrodes look like they have 60k miles of wear on them. I poped some NGK coppers in and it feels like a whole new car. This is the second time i've had problems with this brand of plug, the other was in my 94 Honda prelude. They just dont seem to work well on japanese cars at all, I just wanted to give my personal experience with them because the question seems to come up from time to time.

The question comes up from time to time, and is resoundingly in favor of the NGK plats. I don't even know why you would have wasted your money on the Bosch plugs, espically if you knew these threads already exist

I think that every new maxima.org member should sign something that says that they will put nothing but NGK plugs in their maxima.

Kev...get to work.

Copper plugs are V-Power and Standard. The standard is: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...100&country=US and the V-Power is: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...200&country=US

V-Power is basically a new design from the standard ones and I guess it performs better than standard ones.

bosch plugs are german

ngk coppers are said to perform better than platinums...they just don't have the same longevity

Bosch Platinums are crap. My car was misfiring so I changed to NGK and havent had problems for a 1000 miles. BTW my Bosch's had 3000 miles on them.

Replaced my stock NGK's with Bosch 2+plats... have had occasional misfire, 0304 codes, etc... I now hear a ticking noise, that I DO NOT RECALL from before the replacement, etc.... possibly attributable to the plugs (or some other mod, maybe, too many to remember )
I'm changing them back for the NGK plats from the dealer ($69 for 6) and I'll report on the difference

No Problems with Bosch Platinum 4's

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BOSCH PLAT 4 PLUGS

I used Bosch Platinum +4's for about 50,000 miles - the car performed flawlessly, and I replaced them with another set of the same! Maybe I'll try NGK's someday, but there's nothing wrong with the plugs I have in now, so there's no reason to replace them. I do inspect them regularly and see no signs of wear.

I've heard of problems with platinum plugs and nitrous oxide, however. I suppose it could be related to how you drive and how you've modded the car.

For the majority, these plugs suck. I'm sure there is an exception to every rule. Your response is the first positive response I have seen about these plugs.

Just think of this. Nissan techs designed the ignition system to work best with the NGK platinums. Nissan techs aren't exactly stupid, but they did know their plugs at the time. So why use anything different?

what the. I replaced my plugs with bosch plats and love them. My fuel mileage is definately a whole lot better, and the car just feels like it's responding better.

Pep Boys (went to 2 of them and they didn't have any for Max around here) and the Nissan dealer if you want to pay more. I'm looking for other places, but I'll prolly buy the $37 platinums from eBay.
