Reverse Problems

I have a problem where my rpms drop and go up when i put the car in reverse. It doesnt happen all the time. i was just wondering if anyone else had simliar problems....im an auto btw

it also does this going forward(just not as often)...almost like the cable gets stuck and then is released

I'm assuming this is related with a security issue of making sure the car is not moving forward when put into reverse, but thats only a guess.
