Manumatic Finished

Manumatic Finished
hi all,
I've been driving with my manumatic controller for the last 2-3 weeks without problems. It took a couple of days to get used to putting my right hand on the steering wheel rather than the gear selector.
Overall, it really like it in normal driving. For really tight turns though, it's easier to have the up/down on the gear selector like the Z or g35c (since the steering wheel buttons move).
Here's a link to the original thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?threadid=224465
Anyways, I've got 1 unit to sell for $300. If you are interested in the mod, you need to be very comfortable with wiring and soldering. Here's a link to the installation instructions:
Installation Instructions
In the previous thread, many people expressed interest but I only have 1 extra unit (and I may not make that many since it takes a long time to put the kit together) so here's a link where you can put yourself on a waiting list.
Waiting List
To finetune the instructions, I might take up local owners first (bay area CA) and help with the installation.
thanks,
rob

This is an impressive mod. If I was unfortunate enough not to have a 5 speed this would be an absoloute MUST...very impressive..good work!!

I don't see why you'd want it to stay in a higher gear instead of letting the tranny kick down???
Nah - you want to sneakily drop the tranny to the lower gear and let the engine tick over at 4k rpm for a couple of seconds before you need to accelerate... Then when the time comes to accelerate (the third honk, or a passing opportunity) you floor it and you're already in the right gear - you get a 1 sec headstart on where you would have been letting the tranny kick down on it's own...

For the track mine already shifts automatically at 6400 and at full line pressure and it didn't cost anything. Also its a no brainer when racing.

seriously...NO!.. because it cannot engage the clutch...it is possible for you to design it to do so...but prolly not worth the time or cost...PUNK!

Need4Speed,
If I had an auto I would definitely take one from you. The quality of the work and research you have done here is unparalleled. Excellent work, my friend!!

Can you provide me with a customized box? I dont need shifting ability I only need to know which gear it is in. So I need the display unit and I want to see 0..4 Would this be cheaper and /or easier to build and install?

A stupid question - what's the difference between using the stock shifter and the manumatic mod?

Number 22 on the list, I want to see how to install the led display (replace the non working clock on the dash), any draw backs to the tranny? Would this hurt my VBmod, I really just need a gurantee it wont *** up anything.

I always wondered what happened to this. I wish he would make some. You control when the transmission shifts not the transmission computer. So people who are auto with extended redlines can take there car all the way up to 7000+ rpm in all gears. Changing gears with the shifter messes up the mechanical working of the transmission. When you change the gears with the manumatic you do not. You would have to be careful not to down shift to high in a gear or you could do some valvetrain damage. You could also do things like drop a gear, instead of waiting for the computer to make up its mind. Great for racing even road courses. This would work with a valvebody it would be better than 5-speed.

Dunno if you guys can still get them.. but I have mine and love it. Granted, I did some of the wiring shoddily so it's currently unplugged until I can go fix my f'ups.. but besides that, it's great. Good luck getting in touch with the dude or getting one

Yes, it's still available. It's just that we had a newborn right after the install
in Eric's car, so I've been out due to lack of sleep (plus I started modding
another car)...
If you're in the bay area, you can drop by and check it out. It's $300, but
you should be very comfortable doing wiring work.
If you're far away, I can offer some help over the phone but again, you should
be very...
Detailed install instructions are available at my website (www.rcreations.com
under maxima). (ps. thanks to Eric for his 96 max pictures).

ps. I have enough parts to make 3-4 units only and it takes a day each
(lucky if I have a day free nowadays)...

oh, the waiting list is so old that it's probably got lots of dead wood.
I'll clear it out this weekend and start over, or if you guys like it better,
just start posting here, as in:
1. me
2. too
I'll try to get started again and pm people in order
thanks,
rob

with this manumatic shifting, does this eliminate the kickdown when you floor in in manual mode?
#40
I'm curious about the same. With the exception of having steering wheel mounted controls, is there any difference from this mod, and simply putting it in D2 for example? or D w/ OD off....
