Coil Problem ? Tests ? Fast failure ?
Coil Problem ? Tests ? Fast failure ?
My '99 Max/50K miles just started to have a slight miss when idling (such as at a light). I don't feel it at speed but who knows. No check engine lights. I've never done the plugs so I'm thinking I'll do them and run the ohm test (per the Haynes manual) on the coils while I'm at it.
Questions:
- Does this test catch coils that might be intermittent ?
- Would a coil be an unusual failure at 50K miles, or right on
schedule ?
- Do these coils fail rather quickly once they start to go ? I'm thinking of taking a long ride soon... will I have a good chance of losing one or more abruptly and becoming undriveable... or will it
just run worse and worse for a few thousand miles ?
Thanks,
Bob
