I am 16 years old and I am not very familiar with things under the hood of my 95 maxima SE.......Can someone help??
The check engine light came on and i checked it out and it gave me the Knock Sensor and the Rear 02 Sensor codes...Should i bother replacing either of them or should i just not even worry about it...Everything seems fine, except that i feel like my car is sucking up gas...Its has almost 94,000 miles on it. Should i replace the spark plugs and the Fuel Filter too??
PS....I am having a bad month with My Maxima.. Its a great car, but someone hit it in my high school parking lot last week so now i have to have that fixed, even though it is not bad at all its just a pain in the butt. Plus, last night me and my friends went out and my friend opened my back drivers door and a piece of the door trim fell off where the back meets the front door. I read something on here where someone said that the same thing happened to them. Can i do something to prevent it from happening again. Im not a multimillionaire and these things cost money to fix! ArG!
Someone write back.
Joe!

I was about to post the same exact thing man. Knock sensor and rear o2 sensor has set off the check engine light. I have a 95 gle auto. I was thinking of doing it myself also even though i'm not so skilled in the mechanic field. I just recieved my Haynes manual and I just won the factory service manual on e-bay so should i try it myself? Anyone with knowledge with these darn sensors please help.

Please post the Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Should i replace the spark plugs and the Fuel Filter too??
The spark plugs were supposed to be replaced at 60K miles. If they were not changed then -- or you are uncertain -- replace them now. The fuel filter is not replaced on a regularly scheduled basis. It should be replaced when there is reason to believe it is clogged. A clogged fuel filter will manifest itself as fuel starvation. Since you say "everything seems fine" your filter is not clogged.

Don't rely on "feel", rely on careful measurement. Put a file card and pen in your glove compartment. Use this as an ongoing fuel purchase log. Write the date, odometer reading, and quantity (gallons) at every fuel purchase. After 1,000 miles you will have a meaningful measure of fuel consumption.

You replaced what?

What did you replace for 270 dollars? and what do you mean that your car runs better, what have you noticed?

Also, does anyone know what I could do to increase fuel economy?
Thanks to everyone who has replied you are a real help to me!!!

well, the o2 sensor was replaced for about $190 and the knock sensor (not the sensor itself, but everthing around it like the wiring) was about $75. i guess its something i could have done on my own, but i don't have the time or the garage space to do it. the car just felt a little rough and had less pick up before i had the sensor replaced. from what i understand, your gas mileage can get worse if you have problems with the o2 sensors, but im am not an expert. daniel martin is the person to ask if you want to check things out yourself.

What should i do to my car to insure that it lasts at LEAST to 200,000 miles?
IM currently at 93,400 miles. Which is not that bad at all, but i need to know what i could do.
If i change the spark plugs what else should i do to tune up my car?

(1) Faithfully perform all scheduled maintenance procedures.
(2) If your Maxima has an automatic transmission, change the fluid at 60K intervals.
(3) Refrain from abusive driving practices.
