This was a bookmarker.

However, I haven't followed those directions yet so I don't know how helpful they'll be.

No, it's not a common thing although the 9004 beam pattern sucks.

9004 bulbs are not likely to 'explode' unless you've:
a) handled the glass part of the bulb with your fingers rather than holding it by the plastic stem, leaving residues.
b) used aftermarket 9004 bulb replacements (ie, Nokya).. they don't have the greatest quality control.

Remove your radiator grille and clearance lamp. 4 bolts total. 2 are on the fender brace (visible after removing the clearance lamp). The other two, are fixed from behind the radiator brace - take a peek next to the radiator area (engine compartment side) and you'll see it.

Don't forget to remove the bulb and disconnect the connector. If you're doing the right side, you might need to remove the splash shield that blocks access to the bulb and disconnect the connector (my car has it, not sure whether all do).

I didn't have to touch mine to make them explode. I don't have aftermarkets either... just flashed the lights to let someone know about a cop and it just went out, first the low beam went off then when the highbeam went off the light filled with smoke and left me with a huge mess

Bad luck I suppose? Were you running overwattage? Perhaps you had moisture inside your housing?

How was prom? Your date is cute

What do you mean by radiator grill? the main grill? Can you please elaborate a little more on where the bolts are located? Thanks for your help.

If you have a Haynes manual, it has a couple of pics that show where the bolts are.

There are 2 bolts and 2 nuts (not 4 bolts as I mentioned before) for each headlamp housing.

To access the outer two bolts, you will need to remove the clearance lamp housing. It is a bit tricky to remove the clearance lamp if you've never done it before (if you have your owner's manual, it shows how to do it when replacing the bulb). Anyway, the clearance lamp is secured by a bolt/screw on the top, and is held in by a knuckleball joint at the back. Once you remove the top bolt/screw, you will need to pop it out of the knuckleball clip. After removing the lamp, you will see a fender brace that runs vertical. The outer corner of the headlamp housing is secured to this brace by two bolts. Remove these bolts.

The remaining two nuts that secure the inner corner of the housing should be visible from the engine compartment. Line up the inner corner of the headlamp housing to the radiator brace (metal painted part), you will see two long studs that are held in by nuts. This is what you will need to remove. On the left side, it is in front of the battery next to the radiator.

The front grill (I said radiator grill previosuly, sorry) removal should ease the removal of the headlamp housing. Have fun with it.
