Was i screwed by dealership? Left vs. right wheel bearing size
I had my front right wheel bearing replaced last week at the local nissan dealership. They replaced it and I had them give me the bad bearing afterwards. There was a very rough and noticable area of wear inside so i knew it was bad. The bearing noise came back only 10 days later. Yesterday I took it in again to have it diagnosed/fixed. They call me later at work saying it is the LEFT wheel bearing that is bad this time. Well I couldn't go take a look myself and for some reason I trusted the guy who was working with me, even though it seemed wrong.
Well I pick it up at the end of the day - the noise has not changed at all. Nothing was fixed, and I was charged for it regardless. Well first thing this morning I go in and demand to see the left side bearing that was supposedly bad. They bring one out that looks fine to me but they try to say its got 'flat spots' etc... Then I took it to the car where I had the old right side one sitting, and they are completely different size(by at least a 1/4 inch in length)! My point is, on 4th gens, is the size of the left bearing different from the right bearing??? Otherwise, they are trying to BS me into thinking they changed a bearing when they did nothing at all.

Thats what I thought. The kicker is that last night when I picked it up, the technician tells me that the bearing was broken into pieces upon removal when I asked to have it. And this morning there magically appears a brand new 'bad' bearing. That is the last time I will trust ANYTHING I hear from these mechanics/dealers. Sucks to learn my lesson the hard way though.
