check engine codes
#1
just read my codes and they were 1003(park neut pos switch) and 1101(inhibitor switch). the car was in a wreck and i replaced the park neutral switch(i think, it was the switch that was mounted on transmission that the gear shift cable attaches to.) i discovered that one of the connectors wasn't plugged in completely and reattached) light is still on. what is inhibitor switch? will any of this leave me stranded. also, how do you clear codes once fixed?

- the PNP switch itself (defective or misadjusted)
- its harness and connectors
- the control cable (misadjusted)
- the Transmission Control Module
In view of the crash damage the defect is probably near the PNP switch. The TCM is inside the passenger cabin and unlikely to suffer crash damage.
Problems with the PNP switch may result in a no-crank condition. Therefore the danger of being stranded does exist but it means being unable to start the engine, but not a sudden breakdown while you are driving.
You will find instructions to do a DTC readout and reset the Check Engine light at Steve Cutchen's excellent MaxFAQs page: http://web2.airmail.net/scutchen/max_faq/

- Harness or connectors (the communications line circuit between ECM and TCM is open or shorted.)
- TCM
- Weak or dead battery
Be sure to erase the malfunction information such as DTC not only in TCM but also ECM after the A/T related repair.
