EVAP Need Help!!!!

Hi guys, I got the ol' small evap leak and evap vent control valve error code so I decided to change the canister and the valve. First thing I noticed was that the pipe which connects to the water seperater was not placed on the valve. (valve has 3 openings, one on the bottom, an electrical connection and the one in the middle which connects to the water seperater according to the service manual). I decided to replace everything anyways. The procedure was simple enough and I managed to get rid of the evap leak error code. However the valve error code remained so I decided to try not connecting the pipe which goes to the water seperater and the error code went away. Now am I doing something wrong by not connecting that tube to the valve? Or does it have to be there even though putting it on causes the error code? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
