CV-Axle

Is it possible to fit an auto-tanny axle onto a 5-spd car and still make it drivable? I bought a car lately and it vibrates badly at highway speed. I am suspecting the axle because it was replaced 6 months ago and the repair receipt said 'Automatic Transmission'. I hope it was a miss print but I need to know if it's a possibility that caused my vibration.
Thanks in advance.

Another thought, is ABS-NonABS axle interchagable? My car was non-ABS and the previous owner always thougt it is. Could this be a cause for vibration?
Thanks

ABS and NON ABS are interchangable. You'll trip the ABS warning light because the Axel is missing the ABS sensor ring. Thats the only difference.

(Found that out the hard way one day...)

What about AT/MT? Any idea?
In your case, you put a non-ABS axle in your ABS Maxima right? But if it's vice versa(which is my case), no ABS light will be triggered. Is the ABS sensor ring gonna prevent it from getting into a non-ABS car? If not, will it result in vibration? Sorry for so many questions.
Thanks for replying.

They are not interchangeable. Some people say that the passenger side axles for both auto and manual do fit but that the driver side don't. But I have a manual transmission in my balcony and niether the pasenger side or driver side from the auto fit it. Btw Your vibration could be caused by a whole host of things;Incorrect tire wear, bent axles, bent rims, worn struts, broken or bent stabilizer bar, worn stabilizer bar bushings, etc. So do some research before coming to a conclussion.

Correct, MT/AT axles are not interchangable. I just got my axles replaced with new ones from Raxles and I love them. I asked Marty if I would have to change the axles out if I did the 5spd conversion, and he said yes, but only one side; I can't remember which side though..D'OH!

Hope that helps..

Thanks guys, that really put my mind in peace. Now I have to worry about the vibration. Ordered some new tires cause they are pretty worn anyway. Hope the vibration stops there.

If you put an axle with the ABS ring and your car is a non-ABS, it's ok. I did it on my max and everything is fine.

Thanks WhiteMax96. Now I am sure the vibratiob has nothing to do with the axles. My next suspect is the suspension cause the ride is really bumpy. I feel every small irregularity on the road. Is there any easy way to tell your struts/shocks/springs/stablizer bar are out? Thanks.

I know this from experience from doing the 5spd swap.

The Driver's side axle is NOT interchangable between MT and AT

The Passenger side axle IS. (I still have my Auto axle on my 5spd)
Also, I found this out after calling Mardi at raxles to order a pass side one, and he told me I didn't need to because they are the same. No vibration - no hassles. Car drives fine.

ABS Axles will work with non-ABS - but unless you want a warning light it won't work the other way around.

Hope that helps.

I know I'm just repeating stuff, but it seems there's confusion on the axle issue. Again - the Passenger side axle is exactly the same.

the whole vibrating problem it could be as simple as rebalancing the tires or it could be as complicated as worn wheel bearing,or as someone else said in this tread, worn bushings. I would say that new tires and a good alignment job may solve your problem...
