Just picked up a second 4th gen for the wife.
I just purchased a 99 GLE for my wife. it only has 75,000 miles! needs both cv-axles and a/c compressor(which i promised to change for her lol) body and paint are in good shape except for driver front fender that was repainted and a small amount of paint chip of the rear bumper but i only paid $3800 for her!
so what you guys think? good deal?

I'm guessing you didn't do too bad. I just picked up a '95 GXE (that's what ins. calls it, I'm thinking it might be an SE based on the VIN sticky thread) 5-spd, leather, bose radio, sunroof, car has 195k miles on it, engine is an Infiniti VQ30DE supposed to be 30k on it. It needs about $200 in front suspension (LCAs, inner/outer tie rods, sway bar links, struts should make it 6mo. or so), and eventually it'll need that lower radiator support (no cracks yet, hoping I can make it 'til next spring). I paid $2600, sadly I didn't find out about that core support thing until after I got the car (didn't know to look here until after I bought it) if I had I probably would have tried to get closer to $2000.

i know what im talkin about cause i just did alot of the same repairs. i was kidding about 2k, no way it's gonna be that much. in the end i think used cars, even low mileage tend to be money pits. i turned down an 04 g35 with 53,000 and with my trade it was 9,000 cause i knew what i had done to my car but did'nt like thinking i was going to make car payments plus any repairs and no warranty scared me off. pics of the car man!!! cmon!!!

just did both axles $120 (new with lifetime warr). the right axle was a ***** needed to use and air hammer to get it out, but all and all im happy. no leaks anywhere rack is in good shape believe it or not lower rad support is almost perfect! i was amazed by that alone.
I found a used a/c compressor for $125 and i can rent the vacuum pump from autozone (just a deposit they refund after you return) and i can borrow the hoses/gauges. a friend taught me how to repair a/c system, i shouldn't need anything else for a/c unless system is not pressurized then ill need dryer and prolly all the seals changed out. we will see.
everything else is good. it does not have a sunroof but my wife didnt want one due to more to break and extra creeking noises! lol also no fogs or heated seats. it does have leather and bose so shes happy!
i am going to change alllll the fluids, spark plugs, air filter it will need brakes/tires by next winter and shocks are brand new.

yeah depends how you look at it. i dont trust anyone anyways i'd rather pay less do the repairs the right way know the true condition of the car it really allows me to start right with maintenance for the rest of my time with the car and its a great bonding experience also.

i mean i would've paid more for one someone else told me they already did all that work to, but if i do the work i know the job is done right and my cost is lower as i do the repairs myself better parts warrenty in my name ect ect..
i have to admit tho it does suck to buy a car that's not road ready and put money in it before driving (my wife and daughter will be in it i wouldn't let them before i did the axles)
