Cleaned up the MAF with alcohol
I decided to be adventurous with my MAF. I took it out and scrubbed off all the dirt on the inlet screen. I wiped out all the dust particles on the interior of the MAF. Then I sprayed isopropyl alcohol on the sensor element getting them nicely soaked and waited for it to dry. Then I reinstalled the sensor.
The bottom end acceleration is nicely improved. Moderately more forceful off the line and it goes through the dreaded 2000-3000rpm dead spot noticeably better. There is a bit better throttle response cruising on the highway in overdrive at 70+ MPH.
I have a K&N filter so I thought it would be a good idea to clean up any residual oils that may be on the sensor element. A technician at one of the local speed shops here recommended the same procedure to me.
I rinsed out an empty bottle of windex glass cleaner and filled it with isopropyl alcohol for the cleaning task. Alcohol evaporates fast and lifts off oils much faster than water.
I think maybe I might spray the whole K&N panel filter with alcohol to remove the oil on it. It is not very saturated right now but I remember it being a lot more greasy when I first installed it.

Use the K&N filter recharge kit. Your idea may work just fine, but the kit is made specifically for cleaning that filter effectively without harm to the media.

I have been using Isopropyl Alcohol for a year or so on my MAF and it works great. Make sure you use 90% or purer, it drys faster and has less impurities.
Put the MAF in a ziplock bag and use enough Isoprop to just about cover it and gently shake the bag back and forth to allow the alcohol to pass through the sensor. Take it out and let it air dry or use very low pressure air to dry it off.
