Lower

Thinking about lowering my 96 max but i need a little help from your guys

i dont see myself doing any real hard core racing so i am wondering if i should go with lower springs of get Coilovers.

Friends tell me that you will lose stiffness with Coilovers but you have the ablitliy to adjust them. where springs cant really be adjusted. This is good beacuse in the future i would like to pick up some rims 17' or maybe 18' so with the Coilovers i could adjust apropriatly.

lastly what would be a good price for Coilovers and for lower springs

Thanks for any insite you guys can provide

Depends what you want, tell us how important "drop", "handling", and "ride comfort" are and we can find a spring/shock or coilover system for you.

And check them all out here:

Tell your friends it's just the opposite. Coilovers ride very hard. They are totally geared for performance, not ride quality.

well okay what would you guys do? like i said i dont really see myself racing, and i would like a confortable ride.

Also i do plan on getting 17' or 18' in the future... so the hight may have to be adjusted..

If you want the best comfort, you're best off with H&R/Illumina. It's the closest to stock. But then again, you tell us what YOU want. What you can tolerate, what you expect from a suspension. Be detailed.

And yes, all coilover systems ride very rough. But that just makes for better handling.

well i dont know how detailed i can be but here is my best shot.

The main goal is to lower the car witht he current stock GLE rims i have on it, i hear lowering about 2" back and front looks sharp.

as far as comfort 99.9% of this car driving will be casual so comfort does play a big part as i do a fair amount of long distant driving.

In the future (around a year) i am looking to get 17" or 18" rims with a tire hight of 40. so i dont know forsure but i probably will have to change the hight of the springs in order to look the best.

coilovers being a VERY rough ride sounds a little harsh.. the ablitlity to resize sounds good but if the ride is hard as hell i would rather not.

I hope this is enough detail, thank you very much for your help.

ohhh quick questions if "H&R/Illumina" are very close to stock then whats the advantage of getting them over the current stock springs?

If you want a 2 inch drop, H&R will only disappoint you. Go with the B&G/KYB-AGX setup and you'll be much happier. The drop is about 1.6-1.8 inches all the way round and the ride is pretty smooth. The H&Rs ride great but their drop is very small.

my B+G drop in front has a 2 inch wheelgap, which is the same as measured by another member who had H&R's. theyre a little lower in the back, but not significantly.. so i dunno about the B+G's being much lower than H&R's.

I've parked my car next to another Max lowered on H&Rs and mine sat a lot lower. From my experience, some Maximas with B&Gs sit lower than others with the same setup. I also have an even drop on the front and the back. IMO, B&Gs are not very consistent with their drops.
