Reverse Glow Gauges Install

Well I tried searching on the new test site for this but I couldn't come up with anything after like 20 minutes, so I'm just gonna post. Does anyone know of an guide to installing aftermarket gauges, specifically the dissasembly of the dash/gauge pod? It would help greatly. Or if someone feels like describing the steps that would also help, but pics would be great. Thanks.

Try these...however, the instructions look like they're for a 3rd Gen.

they are a pain in the butt. my advice is to get someone that really knows how to do it. I had them on for a long time and none of my needles worked. So...i ALWAYS had a full tank of gas...and i was always going 60mph....in park.

Cheston put those instructions together some time back for his 4th gen. I followed them to install my gauges on my '97 SE last weekend & everything turned out pretty good. I do have a couple suggestions though:
  • use some white glue at (a) the center of your gauge face (tach & speedo) and (b) the corners. If not, they may lift up slightly & snag the bottom of your needle;
  • sand the bottom of my two needles slightly to increase the clearance with the gauge faces.

  • in following the instructions on that site, I removed a couple bulbs to run the wires through. As a result, the fuel needle isn't lit up. I might tear apart my dash again & try to find a spot to punch a hole thorough to run 2 of my wires & replace the bulb behind the fuel gauge.

  • and here's everything all finished up:

Okay, thanks for the tips. A bit off the subject but how do you like your AGX/Progress combo?? I'm thinking about getting that for myself, just wondering what the ride is like and how you like the drop? thanks.

Why don't you drill a hole to push the wires through?

Just drill from the back so you don't damage the leads...

I looked for about 2-3 min. & found that the membrane with the tracks (elec. paths) were spaced pretty closely together. I'' probably take things apart and have a closer look. The hole to be made needs to be ~ 6mm dia. to allow the connectors to pass through. That's why the bulb holes are so ideally suited....sorta.

The combo is really good. The Max is very stable on highway sweepers. btw, I have my AGXs set to 3/5 (f/r). I came from SE springs/struts and I noticed quite an improvement in stability. The car just doesn't roll and pitch so much. At the same time, they are pretty comfortable when driving on slightly patchy/rough roads. Though I avoid potholes like the plague. OT: Since I've change my gauges from metric to imperial, driving at 100 seems to be better on my conscience. hehehe.
