When you first put your rebuilt 5-speed tranny back in, could you not shift untill the engine had started for the first time since insertion?

Mine will not shift, and i am hoping it is because everything has to be lined up first. When i reassembled it, everything spun perfectly, and it all fit. I think the detent ***** and springs all need to be jumbled a little by the engine to be knocked into place.

my shifter will not move into any gear, and the wheels will not rotate when the clutch isn't pressed.(in gear, while it should be in neutral).
