5 speed questions

hey can anyone tell me how hard it is to rebuild a standard tranny or just the diff

rebuilding the manual tranny is not hard, assuming you have the tools. Its difficult to get the old bearings off the differential gear if those are your problem. I guess you could take the diff gear to a shop and have the bearings removed.the manual tranny is pretty simple in comparison to the auto. I don't even want to think about diassembling an auto. I suggest you get yourself a Nissan manual, the real one. It might be 50-100 bucks but its very worth it.

I can't think of any specialty tools. You'll need regular tools, though. Is the tranny off the car yet?

not yet i'm gonna wait to see how much the bearings are and if their is a rebuild kit offered and if i'm gonna have it apart i might as well replace the synchros haw hard are those

The bearings are ~50 a piece (there are 2 diffy bearings). The seals are cheap (couple bucks). As for the syncros, I've never actually done it, but it doesn't look too hard.
