Howdy All:
I finally got around to changing out my dash. I bought an SE dash which I am prettye sure is all good. I got new hyperlites and put those in. I then proceeded to get this all installed according to a couple of sites great instructions. Everything works wonderful except the speedometer. Any ideas??? The odometer works so I would think the speedo would work. Did I pinch a wire?? Is there something else to check?? Please any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
tony

I pulled it all out and
switched back to the other cluster. Everything works fine on that one, so I know I did not screw up the wiring. Is there anything I can check or do on the other cluster to get the speedo working?? I am starting to feel that maybe I did not purchase a cool working gauge cluster that I thought I had.

That's a tough one Tony. You may want to visually inspect the printed circuit board on the back, especially where the cable connector plugs in. I would look for breaks, kinks, indentions, etc. Also check for corrosion or oxidation where the connectors go. NAPA sells a cleaner called CRC Electronics Cleaner; I would try that on the connectors and the exposed contacts of the PCB.
If none of that works, you may be able to get a free estimate/diagnosis from a speedometer repair shop.

The plot thickens
Howdy All:
I sprayed some CRC stuff on there and cleaned the back(Great idea by the way). I took off at lunch and once I get going like above 40 the speedo jumps up and starts working. But as the speed drops below 40 the needle drops like an anchor. I went to a speedo shop and they said it sounds like the speedo is shot. Any thoughts??

Did it work above 40 mph before you used the CRC?
If the answer is no, I would try another treatment with CRC and make sure that all of the contacts on the plug have the proper arch to assure full contact with the PCB.
If the answer is yes or don't know, then the problem is beyond my capabilities without a detailed wiring schematic. It could be that it is just sticking and that driving around for a while will loosen it up.
You may want to get the shop to swap the speedos for you. That shouldn't cost too much, especially if you remove the clusters.

OK The last suggestions were great.
So I am thinking it is either the something with the connector layout on the back of the cluster or the speedo itself. I was this far in and figured why not go for something different. I knew my old speedo and cluster was good so I took the tach, fuel, and temp gauge from the SE cluster and moved them to mine. and PRESTO

I like this it reminds me of a motorcycle where the speedo is not as highlighted as the other gauges.
Any thoughts??
