Where exactly is it comming from?
The tranny fluid is checked and added in the same spot. There is a 3/4" dirve socket screw on the front of the trans (facing twords the bumper). Needs to be checked and filled while the car is level or as level as possible.

Re: leak on 5-speed trany
I've had a slow leak in my 5sp since I bought it a couple months ago. After doing some research, I think its a sign of eventual transmission failure(bearings), which isn't uncommon on the 4th gen manual. hope i'm wrong...

It seem like our trany is two peaices bolted togther, right were the two peaces meet there is some leakage. im not sure if perhaps the seals are dried out... Do i just use normal trany fluid to fill it up, and to i fill it up untill it over flows out of the 3\4 hole??

Those two pieces are the bell housing and the actual gear box. If your seeing fluid seep from there you probably have a main shaft seal leaking. Your clutch might start to slip and chatter as it's now prone to getting oil on it as well.

I would try cleaning up the oil on the housing and seeing if it may be running from somewhere else and just settling there.

mine was a bad axel seal, which then lead to the bearings and housing being damaged which led to a new 99 tranny in my 97 max. i let the leak go for a while and it just got worse over the months. i tried replacing the axel but it was 2 late by then there was already tranmission damage. so instead of rebulding it i just bought a 99 tranny with 30,000 miles from mississippi for 480 and then 400 at a dealer for install. Its not the end of the world if ur tranny is goin, but no matter how small of an issue it may be.. get that leak fixed ASAP.

It might also leak if you overfilled the tranny cause then when it gets hot it will expand and bust out of the overflow.

If you saw how the man tranny was built this is not true. Oh yeah, where exactly is the M/T overflow anyway?
For the leak clean off the bottom of the tranny with brake kleen/gum cutter. Then see where its coming from. Strong possibility its the axle seals.

Mine is leaking as well man. I changed both axles and both seals only to find that I still have the problem.. looks like the diff bearing are gone in my tranny. When the diff wobbles, the axles wobble in the seals as well causing them to leak. It's just time for a new tranny or a good rebuild.

If the oil is on the bottom of the bellhousing (where the tranny meets the engine then it could be Rear Main Seal or Tranny Front Seal.
If the oil is at the point where the two halves of the tranny meet (where there is the row of bolts around the case) then that could be the permatex has failed, which would be very unusual, and would require a quite a bit of work to fix.
I bought an ultraviolet light bulb from walmart and borrowed a desk lamp. In my garage with the door closed I shone the light ont he bottom of the tranny. The gear oil I put in had ultraviolet dye in it, and I was able to see where the leak was coming from.
If your gear oil has no ultraviloet dye then you can buy the dye from Advance Auto Parts etc for $5, pour it in the tranny one night, and check again with the UV light the next night.
I had a leak that wound up with oil pooling where the tranny halves bolt together. I couldn't see the source of the oil with the naked eye, buyt the UV dye made it obvious what was leaking. There is a bolthead on the front of the tranny, next to the filler, facing forwards and slightly down. It holds the 'reverse idler shaft' in place inside the tranny. It had worked loose by a turn or two and was leaking. I pulled the bolt completely out and put a dab of threadlocker on the end, and a bead of permatex under the head, and that fixed it.
