5spd Conversion Questions

For those who have done it, would you do it again and how much did it cost?

My 97 SE has 138k miles and I am trying to determine if it makes more sense to try to sell it and buy a 5pd or to have the conversion done. It will cost $1000 for labor, and I am trying to get an idea how much the parts will go for?

might be better to sell and look for a 5 speed. I'm going to do the conversion because I found a cheaper auto (95) and have my 5 speed (97) as a donor car.

That makes sense, but I was hoping to be able to get all the parts for under 1k. Then the overall expense would be around 2k. I dunno if I would be able to trade/sell mine +2k for a decent 5spd.

Yeah, at Maximum Tuning, right? Has anyone here had it done there? I take it that you decided against getting it done?

Would like to do it myself, but don't have the place or time...

Hi, I owned a 5spd maxima and now I own a newer auto. After coming to this site I began to miss my 5spd, especially with the newer VQ powerplant in my newer auto max. So I thought about getting a 5spd. I can sell my car and buy a 5spd at the dealership 10 miles away. Same exact car just 5spd. Ths would have cost me about $1500. I also could have traded in my car directly to the dealer and walked away losing $3000. I saw this as a better alternative to doing a 5spd conversion. I have a fairly stock car so switching mods would be limited to lightbulbs and lenses which is pretty easy. On that same issue,IMO, if your heavily modded than staying with the auto would be better.

This is just my 2cents and what kind of $$$ I was looking at when I got the urge to have a 5spd.

That makes sense. My issue is that due to the mileage (138k) my tradein/resale value has dropped quite a bit. So keeping in mind that I do not want to spend more than 3k on this whole deal, I think my options for buying another car are somewhat limited. Unless of course I buy another max with similiar mileage. Which I wouldn't want to do...
