auto shifter VERY STIFF- ideas?

auto shifter VERY STIFF- ideas?
My auto shifter is very stiff now, like you have to strong arm it to get it into any gear up or down p r n d 2 1. you really have to pull on it, it no longer just slides right up.

anyone had this or have any ideas what could be causing this, its kind of annoying
