I just found out my rear caliper have been DEAD for at least 3 months...

I got my brakes and everything so i decide to put them on. Well after taking out the rear caliper and pads I try to put on the new ones. They are 2x thicker and the new rotor is almost 2x thicker. With the pads in the caliper there is Absolutely NO room for the caliper. We tried to let out the air but the piston thingy is shot. Fun stuff...

Well, 90% of the breaking comes from the front, so no wonder you didn't notice they were dead.

Did u use the tool to rotate the piston back into place? It's hard to turn, but and takes about 3 million turns but it should seat back down

I had a feeling that was going to be the response.

You need to turn the piston clockwise to get it back in. There is a special tool the will grab the nubs on the piston so you can turn it. You can also use a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the nubs and turn the piston clockwise to move it back into the caliper.

Your new brake pads should fit nicely once you've done that.

Also is it normal for the rear dust boots on my shocks to be torn into single rings and then sucked inside the shock???

Or you can rebuild the caliper and save $$.

I tried but the nubs are worn out, the edges are flat and even with the rest of the piston. Thanx anyway bud...

i just fixed my caliper today when the shops said i need a new one. take everything off like your doing a regular brake change. if the piston is stuck like mine was. pump your brakes and e-brake it should pop out easy. after just scrub the piston down on the sides so it's smooth. slide it back in and c-clamp it. should push down with no problem. if it does just take a little razor blade and saw off some corrosions little by little. that's what mea and my handy smart friend did. works all good now. saved money on buying a new caliper.

Believe me buddy I tried ant both of the rear pistons are shot. My entire rear rotors are rusted, no signs of brake use in a long time. To add to the mess all 8 bolts on the right side of the car broke in half. Worst part is that the pins that hold the 14mm bolts need to be replace cause they have the ends of the bolts in them. Where can I get the bolts and the pins? I tried dealerships but they keep sending me to other dealerships and none of them have any in stock. Worst part is that I haven't driven my car since Friday...

The tool is a little boxy thingy with each side having different nubs, right? It's $13 but I picked it up and I'll try it tomorrow. The rotors and pads cost $140, if I do need the calipers it's another $120, the 3 pin bolts are $18 a piece, ****. Do you think a mechanic shop could get the bolts out of them???

When doing the repairs or the last 3 months of driving? Either way no. Prior to repairs I disconnected the e-brake from the caliper and from the little clip...

Better news. The calipers are reusable after all but now I need a new front caliper bracket, $42 and the aforementiond pins $32...
