Battery or starter problem?

My car is 97 GLE and I just bought one month ago. Last friday I forgot to turn off the headlight. One and half an hour later I realized this mistake and wanted to start the car, but it did not work. So, I jumed the car and ran it for 15 min. Next day I can not start the car, but I can use the remote control and feel the engine starting sound, but it looks like the battery is not strong enough to start the car. Jumped again and ran it for 1 hour. Now everything looks fine.

Normally the battery can last at least 3-4 hours without driving and easily get recharged. Why is my battery so weak? And it looks clean and not old. Is it possible something wrong with the starter? Since Maxima is 6 cylinders, is it true that it needs more power to start?

Pls give me some suggestion. Thanks a lot.

If you frequent deep cycle the battery (drain to near dead) it will kill normal automotive batteries... If it was your original battery (or one with many years of service, it may have been the last straw for the battery. If you have a multimeter (voltmeter) check the V while the car is at about 2K rpm... the reading should be around 14.5V if the alternator is working... I think some 97's had an alternator recall (depending on VIN).
