Should I spend $60 on the KYB bumpstops???

I'm about to order Progress springs and AGX's, should I go ahead and get the KYB bumpstop/strutboots? Do AGX's come with any bumpstops?

They don't come with them. You can cut your stock ones, or order the KYB ones. I ordered the KYB's.

hell yes!!

KYB are made from ureathane vs. rubber like the OEM and will last you twice as long. Not to mention the precut bumpstops to make your ride a lil smoother.

if you got an SE i think you can use the ones you have and just cut them im assuming. Since the SE has the polyurethane mounts.
Am i correct?.. cause Ive wondering about that too.

go to Pepboys and pick up their $5 "Silver E" universal dust boots.

then use your stock bump stops (no cutting). this way, you'll save $$.

Maxima boots or others?

Are we supposed to order stock boots for a Maxima?
I thought I recalled that we order fronts/rears from different cars to turn out the best for us. I believe one set was from a Mustang.

Any info here? I need to order a set

thanks

Front vs Rear?

This may be painfully obvious, but which are for the front, and which are for the rear?
Or is it that they can't be mixed up?

ORDER THE ONES FOR A MAXIMA>>> whoever said something about trw products being repackaged in kyb boxes was flat out wrong... someone said get trw part number 14103 and 14108...ie the mustand and miata...so i do that and the bumpstop is totally different than my stock bumpstop and dustboot.... so i had to cut the new ones and "make them fit" therefore I was strongly advise you ordering the kyb parts from tire rack...assuming they will match the stock boots...or just getting new ones from courtesy nissan or something...........

I think that (not 100% sure) 103 is for front and 108 is for back. Just take off your old ones and see which ones look alike or something One of them comes with a ring or gasket or something like that, just throw that out. I'm getting mine installed tomorrow or Thursday so I don't know.

I had to do the same with Max4u when we were installing my strut boots/bump stops.. When you search the Maxima has no bump stops / dust boots sold at tirerack.com but they sell them as a package with something else for a lot more $...
i got the mustang and miata ones and the rears had to be cut quite a bit because they wouldn't fit under the top shock mount..

Otherwise I'm going to have to go OEM...

Hmmm.. Strange

If I go to tirerack.com and search for a 96 Maxima SE, I get front KYB boots for $41 each and rears for $5 each.

I already have mine with me and going to get them installed soon (as soon as the other parts arrive) so I'll know then. There have been tons of posts on this. Try searching on the test site or look back on the old pages.

Those are strut mounts not boots. They don't make boots for ours cars, we use them from other cars.

Does it matter if you have Ground Controls instead of springs? Is it still a "should have" ?

Cool. I wish I'd ordered them with my GR2's from tirerack, but oh well, I'll go back and order them anyway. Looks like another week before I get my GR2/Progress stuff installed <sigh>.

So KYB SB103 and SB108 are OK?

So, do the KYB Dustboots SB103 and SB108 fit the Maxima, and the TRW models do not?
Or do the KYB dustboot SB103 and SB108 boots lead to trouble?

thanks

Got my suspension installed and car aligned yesterday. The mechanic was impressed by the smaller springs and nice struts/shocks. I was helping him do it so it would be done faster. Mostly all of my stuff was rusted

The rear dustboots fit perfectly BUT they're hard as hell to make them go down (you have to push down real hard so it goes on the bottom of the little circle thing). The front bumpstops are a little smaller in size, but it works fine. Haven't had any trouble with them.

I'm glad I changed my springs b/c the old ones were rubbing and rusted These new ones are great. The front looks nice and low. Just waiting for the back to settle down. I don't have a cam to take a pic, but the rear is like a before shot and the front is like a after shot It rides great. You feel the bumps more, but the handling is excellent. Now I just need a FSTB

I just took a look under my front wheel well.
Seems like my stock bumpstop is about 2 inches long.
How long is the bump stop for a KYB?

Actually, the bump stop I have on there came from an old Tokiko "Blues" model shock which I suppose is close to OEM spec.

If any of you can confirm that the KYB bump stop from TireRack is significantly shorter than the 2" OEM version, then I'll have the confidence to buy it.

I couldn't really see the bumpstop on the rear with the tire installed. Is it worth it to get new rear bump stops from KYB?

Im about to purchase a set of used agx shocks/struts with H&R springs and a rsb...should I go ahead and get the bump stops before having this stuff installed? What exactly do they do? Do they improve the handling of the car? I have a totally stock suspension right now, so Im am sure it will be like night and day when I have everything installed at once!

Yes, you will need the bumpstops. They are actually a combination of bumpstops and dustboots. They keep the strut/shock from compressing fully to the end of the shaft on a hard bump.

Just received AGX/Eibach... My question is, do I have to order Eibach Alignment kit?
Is Dustboot/Bumpstop samething? I saw many people ordered from Tirerack which I will do tomorrow.
What is installation cost of these shocks/spring? This mechanic I used to go said, he would charge me 180/each(720 for labor) which I think crazy? Any good mechanic in NJ area?

$720 is crazy. Go ask Tom http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...00&postcount=9

More info on dustboots http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/s...del=Strut+Boot

The bump stop will protect your shock /struts from bottoming out when you hit a really big hole. The piston rods in the shocks /struts could hit the bottom of the body if you let it bottom out. Get it!!

I never said "they do not fit" all I said was it was hard to get it down the piston tab thing and they don't make the boots for our cars. We can use it from other cars (we get one from a Mustang and one from a Miata). Get SB103 for the front and SB108 for the rear. You'll need 2 of each.

They say it is for the AGX's. Are those the ones? $60

Would anyone have a pic of it on the strut?

As far as I know, Cattman only carry boots for the AGX's. I bought the shock-Struts-springs-boots as a package.

If you get KYB dustboots, they come with the bumpstops (SB103 and SB108).

I did buy new strut mounts for the front, but that was a waste of money for me since my old ones were fine. You'll have to see if they're bad or not.

You won't need rear mounts since they don't go bad because they are metal or something (Dave B. told me that ). So buy only the front ones if you need them (stay away from KYB strut mounts, get OEM)
