95 SE - worth buying?

as i said in my first post, i'm looking for a 95 or 96 SE to use as a second car to haul my drums around (and have some fun while i'm doing it). as the selection of cars (much less maximas) just downright SUCKS here in new orleans (and i wouldn't buy a local car anyway as our streets are the worst in the nation), i've been reduced to the web in search of my dream car. well this morning a buddy went and test-drove one in his town (he lives about 400 miles from me).

he said the engine was smooth and quiet, interior was in very good shape, all accessories worked, and while the exterior had it's share of parking lot dings (i can live with that) and a peeling rear bumper (get it repainted) there was no bodywork or "accident damage". also \the brakes were great and it had new tires. so far so good.

his only complaint was the auto tranny - it seemed (to him) to shift "abruptly" when he goosed it a moderate amount. i had him check the ATF, and it didn't look or smell burnt - bright red. don't maxima trannies last as long as the legendary engines (assuming no abuse)?

it's a one owner car with 83K on it. they're asking 6k for it.

whadaya think?

thanks in advance!
