They're really separate issues, except for the lowering part. Lots of folks change their suspension just to lower their car, as the wheel gap can be pretty distracting if you've got nice rims.

If you've got a few miles on your car or regularly travel rough roads, you may want to invest in new suspension components before you spend $$$ on rims. Throw in FSTB and maybe RSB while you're at it. It'll take about $1000 to do your suspension (give or take), depending on how much you do yourself, where you get the components, etc. The best place for KYB stuff that I've seen is www.taylorautomotive.com.

There's a long, usually incomplete list of suspension components that you need, but here's what I've put together, seems to be the classic set-up:

KYB GR2 struts (front) and shocks (rear), alt: KYB AGX (adjustable)
Springs: Progress, H&R, MaxSpeed
KYB dust boots (front: SB103, rear: SB108)
KYB top mounts (or Motivational in rear if you want more travel)
Nissan OEM "spring seats": Front p/n 54034-85E10, Rear p/n 55031-33P10
Radio Shack spiral wire wrap to reduce noise due to springs

This will drop about 1.5" front, 1.3" rear.

FSTB from eBay (cheap) or custommaxima.com (looks)
RSB from cusommaxima.com (Progress) or cattman.com (Addco)

KYB dustboots come with bumpstops. Just did my GR-2/MaxSpeed suspension today. Replaced the dustboots, strut bearings, upper strut mounts, and I used vinyl tubing as a wrap for the springs

Rides great! And the squeaking from the old rusted springs is gone

rims first. they make a bigger diff in handling. actually, if you're really on a budget and want bang for buck, just get top notch tires.

OK, what I actually ordered from Courtesy was not bumpstops, but a rubber "isolation" ring that sits between the spring "perch" on the struts/shocks and the springs, and isolates noise from the springs.

I haven't heard of anyone else ordering these things, hope it helps.

Also, I wrapped my Progress springs with the Radio Shack stuff but would like to know if you guys think this is wrapped enough or whether I will need to cover a few more coils before the install:

OK, so here's the last piece. I actually didn't buy "bump stops" from Courtesy, they're called "spring seats" and don't do anything more than wrap the lowest coil of the spring. Bought 'em anyway just so I don't have problems in the future.

So they don't rub against each other and so they don't make the annoying sound

It's cheaper than buying the isolators that are around $10 each.
