y pipe worth it?

I know that the y pipes are one of the best mods for the max but I live in New York and I'm not sure that I want to put one on if it's gonna cause me to fail my inspection. Do most people take it off at the time? And what does a stock max sound with a ypipe?

Several folks here live in NYC and passed their inspection. You need to warm your max before inspection. Aftermarket Y will sound slightly deeper than stock.

Think budget!! I have them both and they do the samething...and it so much cheaper...the only thing is that budget sounds cheap when someone asks u "what kidda y-pipe u got?"...lol..but im proud of it... btw I live in long island and both my maxes pass inspection...warm the car up for like a half hour and then do the inspection rite way.

I ordered a y-pipe for my friends 97se and it came in about a week. Im gonna have to find a place to install it...I installed the one in my car and i swear...i will never install another y-pipe again. It takes a long time to loosen those bolts and every muscle in my body hurt for 2 days afterward. Oh and the stock y-pipe fell on my leg (its not light) Id rather pay someone $30 to intall it. I havent gotten any buzzing noises but if you do, just wrap some header wrap. Cheap on ebay!! btw..I live in Huntington.

get the ypipe, get the warpspeed (I have stillen, but would rather have warpspeed). It's a great mod. your car will sound a little more aggressive, but not loud at all.

I got the Stillen pipe installed about 2 years ago though I would have gotten a cheaper brand if they were available at the time.

I've had no problems with inspection. People say to warm up the car and do the inspection right away, and that's probably prudent, but then last time I did my inspection, I had been driving around a good hour or so, then there was a wait at the inspection place. So by the time the inspection actually happened was a good hour and a half after the car was parked. Still passed with no problems.
