The people who wonder if they can beat their friends car. Go out at 3am and try it like i do, and if you have a stick, most likely, on another stockish car of course.

Too many 4th gens in SoCal that think they are all fast and won't give props to a 3rd gen auto that can beat them.

All the regular car people that think I have the 300zx motor.

All the regular car people that think I don't have limited slip differential or IRS.

All the regular car people that think ALL 4dsc's are extremely FAST.

All the regular car people that keep saying, "Your tranny isn't suppose to shift like that! You need to get that fixed." (VB mod)

All the Nissan dealerships thinking they know everything about the VG30DE motor that I have in my 92 SE. lol yeah, you read right.

All the Nissan dealerships that keep thinking the blue oil filter belongs in my car. (Only VE guys would get that)

All the regular Honda speed racers that think I'm spraying when they see me go down the track.

All the regular Honda speed racers that think autos are slow. Then, they are surprised to see I'm not spraying AND I have an auto.

All the regular Honda speed racers that keep saying "NOSSSSS". "Does your car have NOS?"

Wait.... the topic said "Maxima" pet peeves. I'm sorry, I got carried away with pet peeves in general. Well I have one left...

And last, all the regular people who keep saying, "What's that ticking noise?". LOL

For those temperature values, the dewpoint would have to be 76 degrees, and as you can see from here, Louisiana could easily have a dewpoint that high. He's way off with the heat index though, which usually only beats 110 in the desert southwest...

I got my info straight off of the weather alert on Weatherbug. Try zip code of 71055 (Louisiana), and you'll get the same weather alert for today.
From Weatherbug for 19 August 2003...
"Temperatures Are Expected To Climb Into The Upper 90s Again Tuesday Across The Advisory Area. These Temperatures...When Combined With High Humidity...Will Produce Heat Indices From 105 To 110 Degrees Tuesday Afternoon..."
then...
"Keep In Mind The Heat Index Is Measured Under Shady Conditions... And Direct Exposure To Sunlight Can Increase The Heat Index As Much As 15 Degrees."
A heat index maximum of 110* in the shade, plus a maximum of 15* for direct sunlight equals a maximum of 125* heat index in the sun. I know it's been awhile since I've been in school, but that is simple math. I'll verify with my calculator....Yep, it says the same thing....
Maybe the desert southwest has extended to Louisiana.
This link http://veggie.org/run/humidity.shtml says for 90*/90% humidity, the dewpoint would be 85.5, not 86.7. This leads me to believe people are using different formulas to come up with this (or they didn't verify their math on a calculator). So apparently someone is wrong, or it is not an exact science. Like a lot of things human, there is a margin for error. Also, that link is for Cincinnati (OH?), which had a highest dewpoint of 81. I live in Louisiana, much hotter and more humid. I don't think it is inconceivable at all for the dewpoint to raise a few degrees between the places. Until experienced, this heat/humidity is not easily imagined.
And like that link implies, I do know what 90/90 feels like, as I've been in the Persian Gulf (Desert Storm I). Hot.

That's fair. It's damn hot down there, much worse than Florida right now, but it still probably won't exceed 110 (or it might just get past, today only).

then...
"Keep In Mind The Heat Index Is Measured Under Shady Conditions... And Direct Exposure To Sunlight Can Increase The Heat Index As Much As 15 Degrees."

A key point here is "Keep In Mind The Heat Index Is Measured Under Shady Conditions... &quot. The heat index relies only on two readings, the temperature and the humidity. You'll feel hotter under the sun, of course, but the heat index, as defined by the National Weather Service, won't change. It looks like they've added a value on to increase the strength of the warning, but check back at noon and you'll see that they won't include direct sun in the heat index calculation.

Maybe the desert southwest has extended to Louisiana.

.

Yes, someone is wrong . Check the National Weather Service Calculator for Birmingham, AL and enter a temperature of 90 and a dewpoint of 86.7. Relative humidity = 90%. It doesn't matter which part of the country, the dewpoint calc. is the same. There are alternative calculators out there but I'm going with the government.

Like a lot of things human, there is a margin for error. Also, that link is for Cincinnati (OH?), which had a highest dewpoint of 81.
.

No, those links load a contour map of dewpoint and heat index for the whole U.S.

And like that link implies, I do know what 90/90 feels like, as I've been in the Persian Gulf (Desert Storm I). Hot.

Dave

I hate to talk more about the weather thing when its not on topic of original post but i lived in Tampa, Fl for 20 yrs, Miami, Fl for over a year, the gulfport of Mississippi (Biloxi), and now San Antonio, Tx. for 2yrs. I never would belive it till livin here but its hotter and more miserable here than the other places i lived! It feels hotter, and nastier here. Its "sticky" all day and night. Atleast it would cool off during the night in the other places. I dont know bout temps, dew points, or humidity figures but its more hotter here

oh yea. I hate it when I have a serious question and 40 people look at the thread and no one responds.

You need to read into that link because your still not getting it. It's not an exact science and the links even say it, but the truth it's not 90 degrees and 90% humidity anywhere in the United States...ever.

Everyone thinks where ever they live is the hottest/most humid place therefore that's why their car is slow

I've worked all over Louisiana (Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Venice) in the dead of summer (July-Sept) and I'm working outside. It's not near has bad as people make it out to be. Same goes for Georgia and Florida (spend lots of time there in the summer). It feels no worse down there than it does in Kansas City in mid summer. Currently in KC it's 104 with 30% humidity and feels like 108. In New Orleans it's 91 with 55% humidity and feels like 99. 104 is slightly extreme for Kansas City, but it's typically in the 90s with 50% humidity which makes it feel like 100, just like in New Orleans. The only difference between here and there is the food's better

When someone asks a dumb question and 10 people will flame him or give him one of these: but won't spend just as much time to answer the question. If you must flame just so you can feel good, do it after you answer the question!

also: over-use of smilies
This is how that makes me feel

At the risk of getting this thread locked.... There's no direct correlation between humidity and rainfall. Some days it's stinking hot and humid and you get no rain. The only way to check is to consult your local weather online. In general, relative humidity will increase during a rainstorm, but mainly because the temperature is lowered close to the dewpoint.

Theory is great but you're neglecting that the average high temp for Phoenix was 108.7 or 111 depending on where you source your data. The maximum min temp for Phoenix in July was 91 degrees F - that's the coldest it got that day. Now talk to me about heat index with those temps combined with humidity hovering around 50%. Actually, nevermind, I live in Tucson now and don't have to deal with the insufferable Phoenix summers.

Left a bar at about 1am, headed north on I-17 to my buddy's place and at about 01:20 or so, the temp gauge on a big digital readout (Shamrock sign???) read 102*.

Back on topic though - my peeve is the cheapa$$ population of the .org.
