Auto Shift Plate Mod??

Has anyone ever tried to replace the ugly black shift plate on automatics with one of the 5th gens metal-type plate??
If you don't know what piece I'm talking about, it's the black piece that covers the P-R-N-D-2-1 on the automatic shifter ****.

Would love to be able to replace that thing or could just do a 5spd conversion...

i asked this sometime last year...i think someone pointed out that they wouldn't match up for some reason. sorry no details, only that it wouldn't work, or wouldn't be too easy to do.

Yeah I know I said that in my first post...not really a funds thing but more of a pain in the a$$ I would think. I probably would look into buying a 5spd rather than going through a conversion.

I could look into trying to fab something, but that wasn't really what I asked in my "original" post that you obviously read so carefully....but thanks for being so quick to jump down my throat

I was actually wanting to replace the black plastic shift plate. That aluminum trim is surrounding it.
