Put car on 2 hr diet, lost 59 lbs.

I removed the metal braces behind the front and rear bumpers and my HEAVY aftermarket spoiler. Now I gotta do some fill-in on my trunklid. I have no money for mods so this is all I can do at the moment.

That spoiler was a beast I wish my SE didn't have a spoiler.

Ya, it's nice to not have to have someone help me open the trunk now.

As far as the accident question........I don't know. Guess I'll have to be real extra super careful now.

Ya hopefully. That's what I was shooting for.

They go back on after the drags coming up. At least the front one. The rear one is the heaviest of the two. I may leave it off.

I wouldnt mention the fact that your removed metal from the frame...insurance will not cover you if they find out you did that if you are to get in an accident. just my $.02.

I think that's the least of his concerns. His GXE was a salvage car therefore it has a salvage title. I doubt he carries any more than comprehensive insurance.

I think some of you forget what car you are driving. A Maxima is a (slightly) sporty Japanese sedan, it is not a top fuel dragster! How is your life worth to you? Is it really only worth hunderths of a second on a quarter mile timeslip (which wouldn't apply in the real world anyways since you say you'll put them back). I wouldn't risk it at all.

I think your referring to liability, since that only covers the other car.....

Hipocracy at it's best. Mardigras removes his bumper reinforcements in an effort to improve 1/4 mile performance and he's a God and is never questioned. Travis (BSwithTF) removes his to do the same thing at the track and he's an idiot

I didnt know it was just for track use (still not smart) if mardigras or the pope himself did this for other then "just track use" i would still call them stupid because I can

Yeah, I think taking off the doors would be a good idea. Why not take out all the seats too? Throw a small wooden stool in there or something...

Can't remove the doors. Move's me into the Comp class. Can't remove interior pieces, move's me into the Comp class. Only things I can remove are things not visible to the tech inspectors.

Some people on here need to chill out a little. I live in a pretty small town. I drive 3-4 miles to work, speed limit never over 45 mph. When not driving to and from work, my car sits. I'm not taking the freeway to work everyday and doing 80-90 mph. I apologise for making my own life a little "less safe".

Thank you to everyone for your concerns.

My bumper reinforcements have been off since I bought the car in the spring. Its so much lighter now I can just float over any accidents that I see.

dude...put the braces on

they can save your ***...i was rearended in my 93 and the car was totalled. i cant imagine the damage if there were no braces. and youd but ****ed with insurance. it is probably also illegal to remove "safety" equipment and you could be liable for injuries to your passengers and possibly others

I think people are putting way too much faith in the bumpers. Bumper reinenforcements are primarily for low speed crashes and to reduce overall damage. When you hit something over 20mph, a bumper isn't going to help much. The damage will be more severe without a reienforcemenmt, but remember it's rare to have a high speed (above 20mph) straight head on collision because most wrecks are off set or sideswipes. Travis also has all three stages of SFCs so I'd think the cabin of his Maxima is structurally sound and more crashworthy than most Maximas in here. Sure, he's taking a risk, but for the most part he's risking more damage than bodily harm.

As for his weight, he's a pretty built guy. I don't see where he could loose the weight

Exactly! I'd like to know just how many of you have taken one of these braces off and seen it close up. There's not much to them. I don't see them saving my life in a crash. Especially a crash serious enough to "wrap my engine around my neck". Maybe protecting my radiator in a low speed crash but nothing more. It's just a long piece of square metal tubing, nothing more.

Myself on the other hand, prob wouldn't hurt to lose 10 or 15 lbs. but that takes longer than 2 hrs. And it'd be a lot more work.
