I have a '97 GLE, my dad bought it 2 years ago for around 14/15k with 50k miles...no power seat belt, you get leather and moonroof and all that good stuff.

the Gle is the Grand Luxory Edition! Its the Highest out of an SE sporty edition and a GXE The base model. You can feel like a Balla in ya GLE. But if ya like to race, get a Stick Maxima, cause GLE is only standered with an automatic.

the gle is top of the line but you dont have the rear spoiler, foglights, white gauges or the 16" star wheels that comes on the se.

you could always add the missing parts yourself. thats what i did.

The suspension on a Se is much firmer than a GLE.$5300 sounds like a great price depending on condition. If it's in great shape thats fine but at that price I bet it isn't in good condition.

its in good condition i drove it today and it does has a spoiler and 16" five star wheels and white gauges. i like it a lot, hes asking 6300 but i got him down to 5300 i think im going to get it tomorow. it just needs new tires all around....hmm maybe ill just slap on some 18's while im at it and its pueter but i guess i can live with that for awhile untill i can get it painted white or something

Spoiler, 5 spoke rims and most importantly white gauges,It's a SE!!!!!If not it may be a that someone has messed with a GLE.I'd be scared of it.You can tell bythe numbers on the right side firewall under the hood.I don't remember right off hand what means what but I know it's listed on this site because i read it recently. It may be listed in the frequently asked questions. At any rate white gauges mean SE.

I would say it's definitly an SE. It is possible that someone added some parts to turn a GLE into an SE, but doubtful. The dealer might be trying to get some extra $ by saying it's a GLE = Luxury edition...

if it has black trim (around the windows) that doesn't look like it has been covered up by electrical tape, it is MOST likely an SE. Usually, people don't go to the trouble of replacing the chrome trim of a GLE/GXE to achieve the SE look. Also, since it falls withing the years of 97-99, it will have a body-colored grille if it is an SE. One more thing, It will have body-colored door handles if it is an SE. If someone is going to all the trouble to make a GLE this SE like, it is an obsession and they most likely changed everything else like the suspension to SE equipment. I highly doubt that and bet the seller doesn't know their car or is just telling you it is a GLE to get the Blue Book value to look a little higher to you. Either way, it is still a max. (I say it is 99.999999% sure an SE cuz most people won't go to those extremes to make a GLE look like an SE. It would be easier and cheaper to just get an SE)

Tru, the window trim is a dead giveaway. I like the silver trim on my GLE. I think it gives it a more refined look.
