I'm in a pinch, as I'm driving about 4000km in the next two weeks. (nova scotia, etc. from ontario)

My car is laggy under 3k rpm, which is typical for the K.S.
But I also get the RH O2 Sensor code.

I've read in the past that one might be the cause of the other, but I can't remember which one I should replace first!!

I tried the search feature, but I don't have ooodles of time!!

any help is much appriciated!!

thanks,
dave h.

p.s. just prior to the problem i changed my oil. i put the filter on with two seals accidentaly. oil went every where. i then proceded to put a 5 litre jug of oil in the car instead of 4!! ouch!! i ran this way for a couple of days, not realizing. then i flushed and changed my oil, but the codes continue to come up. oil went every where under the car. i high pressure washed it off, and burned the rest off...

could this be the cause? oil on something?
or could it be from running with 5 litres?
or is it not related at all?

my car has never tripped codes, and always has run like the princess she is... untill now...

thanks again!

fix the o2 sensor.. get it for 53 bux shipped from www.buyoxygensensors.com and then reset the ecu, wait a couple days, if the knock sensor code is still there, get knock sensor off ebay for 90 bucks and change it!

Well your RH O2 sensor should be the one triggering the knock sensor. Your talking about the rear heated sensor right? That shouldn't effect the cars performance. Reset the ECU drive around and a little later try to pull more codes before the CEL comes on again. If the knock sensor appears then you'll need a new one. The knock sensor will not trigger the CEL. It's a ghost code.

Thanks guys,
I reset the ECU this morning and drove about an hour.
No codes, I checked for ghost codes, etc., and none.
I'll check again when I get home tonight.

To me it seems that the o2 and ks come on at the same time.

I've reset it a few times in the last few days, and about 2 hours driving and the light comes on...

I'll look closer and more often for the ghost KS.

If they don't clear up in a day or two, I will do the sensors as you said.

thanks again!

that's weird. i was told by a friend that i should replace the KS first because a faulty KS retards the timing(every one knows that i'm sure),causes the car to run in a "Safe" fuel and air MAP, and the rear 02 is strictly a recieving sensor(ECU does not rely on it's readings for adjustments). So, I did and yes, my KS was shot. It literally fell into two pieces when i removed it from the block. Now I get no codes at all. Got the KS off ebay for 50bucks shipped. My 02 sensor is fine. So I don't know what to tell you maybe 97blackSE is right. That is just my experience.

Well, most of the time, What happens is you get a bad O2 sensor, and then the knock sensor detects this and pops up...when its really not bad...o2 sensors, (in my experience) go often quite bad, so if you replace it and the knock sensor code goes away, your set, if not the knock sensor IS bad...Since, though, this is a rear o2 sensor You might be right Cullen...
the rear sensor only trips a code when it detects that your exhaust is rich/lean, it doesnt actually affect your air to fuel ratio...when this happened to me, it was my front left sensor that was bad, and i knew it was bad because i was getting 16mpg...i changed it along with my fuel filter and now i get 24 around town...during my o2 being bad, I checked the codes, and started getting 0304 as well, and continued to get it even after replacing the O2...I still have not replaced the knock sensor (just got it in the mail) and just recently got the rear o2 and the right front one! So i just ordered all the sensors...I am getting a catback and
y-pipe<---(should be here any day) so some new o2 sensors wouldn't hurt!
What i would do is test the load that is on the knock sensor, I am not sure what it should be, but I have hear of a way to check the electric load or whatnot, on the sensor to see if its operating correctly

When my O2 sensor was dead, I got horrible gas mileage (or so it seemed). It is definately a good idea to fix right away.

ghost codes
OK,

my cel light is not on, but...
i check for a ghost code and i get the rear heated o2 sensor. (07,07)
however now cel is on.

if the k.s. is also a ghost, then perhapse the cel comes on when you have 2 ghost codes being thrown? or just the fact that it's these two together?? because when i have both these codes my cel is on.

anyhoo...
my RH O2 is ghosting on me. (not noticable at all when driving)
...i will try to change this sensor tomorrow... and see what happens from there...

thanks again guys!

I bet that was one of the fronts. The rear is to monitor functionality of the cat.
