Fuel injector cleaner in car = good, without = bad. what's my problem?

Well, i've been trying to figure out the problem with my car. The car gets a rough idle as in it gives thumps and bumps while idling. Tested out the coils and that checked out fine and have also changed out the spark plugs. It didnt solve the problem. So I bought some Chevron Techron and low and behold, it got rid of the thumping and bumping! Did the bottle again for the second tank aswell. After the two techron treatments, I filled up with Mobile. Without the treatment in my tank, the thumping came back.

So what can the problem possibly be? What's in the techron bottle that makes my car run buttery smooth again? What should I do to fix up my ride?

- Thanks

This is a long shot, but try a bottle of Marvil Mystery Oil in your gas tank.

no no NO! dont do that! dont put peppermint scented 3 in 1 oil in your gas. what purpose would that have at all? if anything, get fuel injector cleaner...not OIL

ive had friends that got issues from it, thicker than u think... i wouldnt put it in my gas, period. My stance, and the stance I share with most mechanics is: If it makes you
feel better use it. I don't because I think of it as snake oil: It doesn't help, but doesn't hurt. For other people though, if you get a psychological lift, maybe it's a good thing and I am not one to get religious about these types of issues.

Did you use the Heavy Duty Techron cleaner? They sell 2 different types.
Also, have you ever cleaned out your throttle body by hand?

Marval Mystery Oil is a top end lubricant. If he's got a sticky injector it may help loosen it up. It also cleans the top end of your engine and helps lubricate your fuel pump. I use it every now and then on long trips and usually wind up getting over 400 miles/tank and a very smooth idle after one bottle. It will not harm anything, it might very well help him pin point his problem.

If using that oil also makes his car run good, then he's most likely got a lazy or sticky fuel injector.

Thanks for the replies guys. As for the fuel filter, no I havent changed it yet. The engine is still only at 13,4XX miles right now. But I guess it wouldnt hurt to change that too. For the MMO, I guess it's worth a shot. The techron I used was the concentrated techron fuel injector cleaner, i'm assuming that's the heavy duty one?

Using Chevron gas is out of the question for me. I don't have one close to me at all. I live in NY, and apparently they dont like/want or just cant place their gas stations in NY.

Keep the suggestions rolling in

Im not saying anything bad about the marvel mystery oil (you gotta accept that ur wrong sometimes) but try some injector cleaner, i got my car used (it was a rental car) and had a similar problem, but not as bad. injector cleaner fixed it and i ended up getting a smoother power band and better gas mileage...seems like something got in the tank or intake, weird not knowing who drove the car and where

B-12!

that stuff is the greatest fuel injector cleaner ever! It's the same chemical composition as the carb/throttle body cleaner you pic up, but this is in a liguid form you can poor into your tank. A bottle should cost you around $5 I think and it feels so damn good, you'll want to put it in every time you fill up. A large number of us dallas guys ran it in our cars at once... felt great!

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned BG44K. It's about $20 a bottle and worth every penny. I run it about every 6 months to once a year. It's a full fuel system cleaner. Most mechanics would remcomend it over any fuel system treatment out there.
