Hey, I know a guy with a 96 GXE. He has no sunroof, BOSE, ABS, etc. The only option I think it has is dual power seats and automatic. Anyway, I went out with him last night and he says his cloth interior has heated seats! He didn't have the car to prove it and he is not a talker...I thought heated seats only came with leather. So, can he be telling the truth???

At first i thought it was leather only too... but I goto the nissan site and like edit your own maxima, I think you can get the heated seats without leather.

 

Yes he is telling you the truth, let me lay out all of the options he has.
Note: I am assuming the heated seats are from the factory and he did not have them installed after he purchased it. For if he did, then he may not have these options.

On the 96, heated seats is part of the Cold Weather Package, which includes:

Heated Front Seats
Heated Outside Mirrors
Low windshield washer fluid warning light
Better Battery


In order to have the Cold Weather Package in 96 on the GXE, you must also have ABS installed (You said he doesn't, I'll get to that later), and the Security & Convenience Package. This package includes:

8-way power seat
Remote keyless entry with security system
Power trunk release
Illuminated visor vanity mirrors
Variant intermittent wipers
Chrome exhaust finisher
H-rated tires

The only requirement to receive the GXE Security & Convience package is to have an automatic transmission which he has. Therefore if he had a 5-speed, he would be lying, or if he had an SE, he would be lying; because on the SE you have to have a sunroof to receive the Secuirty & Convience Package.

Although you said he has no ABS, which technically means he would be lying, but I bet he has it and doesn't know. People assume if there car doesn't have an ABS badge (There are no ABS badges on Maxima's), they don't have it, and is not as noticable on the maxima as say a sunroof.
I assume he has the ABS option and doesn't know. If the ABS light comes on when he starts the car, then he has it. Although technically his light could be out, that's pretty rare in my opinion.

The only requirement to have ABS on the 96 is to have an automatic. Most people don't know they have heated mirrors either; but whether he is lying or not about his specific car, you can have heated seats on cloth in a GXE if your packages build on top of one another as I described above.

Bose is optional on GXE is you have security and convience and automatic transmission, but is only standard on the GLE.

Your buddy is telling the truth. My 96 GXE also has cloth heated seats. Hey nforg, I have all the items that you listed as being part of the Cold weather package. However, I'm sure that my car does not have ABS. Like you mentioned, the ABS light would illuminate on the dash at start up, and it is not present when I start the engine. BTW, my car is an automatic.

 

Hmm, I thought I might be wrong in stating that simply because ABS is one of those things that a lot of people still don't want, I was thinking that when I was typing it, but I checked a source and it said it was needed. I guess I was wrong on the ABS thing, Sorry.

a freind of mine has a 91 SE, cloth manual seats, but with seat warmer.

 

What it takes to get certain option packages, and what's in them, varies per year.
For instance in 1998, the cold weather package started being called the deluxe seating package, and they just added side impact airbags to it.

i have a 97 5-spd FULLY FULLY loaded SE. bose, sunroof, spoiler, trunk net...etc. only thing i don't have is leather, it still come with buttwarnerS, and heated mirrors too.

 

I have a '99 ES Limited that was only available in Canada in 1999. It's exactly like the SE except for the leather, rear spoiler, side airbags, bose, and sunroof. I find that heated seats on cloth are not really needed unless your like me and live in Canada where you freeze you a$$ off in the winter.

 

I have a 97 GXE

It has the Comfort and Convenience Package and has the heated seats + mirrors, security system plus the CD player and chrome exhaust finisher. It's got some other crap like low washer fluid indicator too.

I just wished they offered the sunroof on the 97 GXEs!

 

My 95 SE auto has cloth seat with heated seat. It has ABS and sunroof with Cold Convinience package Cold Weather Package and the Security & Convenience Package.

The last time I went to the dealer, they are confused because they have never seen cloth seat with seat warmer. I did not buy the car from this dealer obviously.

I guess it is rare for Max with cloth heated seat.
