Aircraft Paint Striper

Is aircraft paint stripper compatible with bondo? What I mean is....Im stripping my cars paint completely and I'm not sure if theres any bondo anywhere. If I were to use the stripper on bondo, what would happen? Also, while Im posting...is aircraft paint stripper a dry stripper, meaning after a few minutes, the paint flakes off leaving nothing?

You gonna stip the body down to metal?? Odd. That stuff is toxic has hell?? OSHA mask time! And it usually leaves a goopy mess. And I believe you would have to remove all the bondo and redo it. Plus you have to scrape all the flakey/goopy crap off and then clean all the residue. Good luck, you are going to need it. Try not to let that bare metal rust away

Yea, I have to go down to metal....the paint now is sh*t and I'm having it repainted. I figure its a lot easier than sanding. I plan on doing a panel at a time that way i can strip, clean, prep and primer right away

It's going to take tons of those aircraft paint stripper to get down to the metal. It takes paint off one layer at a time. So if you have clear coat, base coat and then primer....you will need some much of that stripper it's not practicle. At $8 a pop per can, that's alot of $$$. The body shop usually do not strip your old paint down to the metal and repaint. They just rough up the old paint and shoot paint ontop of the old paint. Only time you need to get down to to the metal is when you have to fill a hole or fix a rust spot.

See, my problem is that my paint is currently VERY thick, I have paint chips everywhere that are down to metal. I heard that the stripper goes down to metal with one application, I don't see how it can just take off a layer at a time??? BTW, I am repainting it myself...

strip away. go to bare metal. while your doing all of that i'd shave off my antenna, trunk keyhole, and the side molding on the doors(the strip that goes across them so ugly!) also i'd add all my newfenders/new body parts at this time. shaved maximas are sexy.

To clear this up, the brush on kind of aircraft stripper is very messy and does goo up. Do not get it on the bumpers. It will distort the plastic. Apply liberally and keep wet until the paint really wrinkles up. Then use a putty knife or straight razor in a scraper handle to slide the mess off on a piece of cardboard waiting on the ground. Then IIRC the acid is deactivated by rinsing with water and you must dry the car quickly after the rinse. Also you cannot get near window rubber or lights with this stuff. I commend you for trying this on your own as body work is not really that hard. And yes the stripper will weaken the bondo if present and you can reapply the stripper a couple times to really get the body clean. You will still have to sand the edges around the window rubber but that is minor after removing the bulk.

Haven't tried the spray kind of stripper...

Don't be affraid of it. Just read the directions on the can. Also you can warp panels from sanding with air tools if you are not careful because the friction of the sand paper can create heat and cause distortion if you don't move around enough. Basically don't stay in one spot.

wow. do not use that stripper.
Look at my car, it had so much hail i didnt ever fill anyof em'.
If you get a bondo-icing that finishes up and fills all those little patches of paint. u should be able to sand out those paint chips b/c there usually all in the front of the car.
Now that stripper wont take it all off the first try , ull have to reapply and just wait for the parts that dont come off, ull need to sand those out compeletly to metal as well. ahhhhhhh way to much just sand and fill then spray.
