climate control diagnostic mode

I got curious about the following procedure steps that seem to swicth the auto climate control in some sort of diagnostic or test mode:

1. turn ignition from off to on
2. within 5 seconds, push off button and hold at least 5 seconds. (Enters test mode)
3. press hot button 4 times. Displays code numbers and stops with number 51 after fourth cycle.
4. press the defrost button once displays temperature setting (call it "a"). Press again displays temperature setting "b", Press again, displays temperature setting "c". Press again, loops to "a".
5. press hot button, then fan speed up, then cold button again the temperature changes between -3.0 deg and + 3.0 deg (Celsius)

I am curious what these are. I was tipped by the coolant change procedure suggested in www.motorvate.ca . No mention in the Haynes, (neither in the owner's manual as you noticed). Max is a 1998.

I was kind of hoping I would get an outside / inside temp display.
