? about clutch master cylinder
I recently had the clutch replaced on my '95 Max SE. This morning I couldn't get the car in gear. I had it all the way to the floor and it wasn't engaging. The pedal would also stick to the floor unless I reached down and pulled it up. I had it towed to the guy who installed the clutch and he says it's the clutch master cylinder, which has leaked fluid. He recommends replacing that in addition to the slave cylinder. My question is should this have been checked when replacing the clutch? He claims it is in a different location and checking it is not standard procedure. I don't know any better and wondered if you guys think I'm being ripped off or not. Please post your vast knowledge.
I had a similar problem with my pedal sticking to the floor...I found out that my clutch fluid resivor was empty...so I filled it back up and blead the line and it has worked fine ever since. I know I have a slow leak so I keep an eye on it...if you ever start to loose clutch fluid you know you have a leak because that stuff (break fluid) does not evaporate...any way I dont have the answer to your question, I just know I will have to replace my slave cylinder in the near future.
Clutch master cyl is on the firewall and not normally looked at when a clutch is repalced. The slave cylinder is on the trans bellhousing and needs to be disconnected (fluid line remains connected though) to drop the trans to do a clutch job. A leak there would be noticed during a clutch job.
