H&R Combination

yea yea... i bought sum H&R drop springs, now i need the rest of the setup, im not sure who to go with...whether or not i should go Tokico or KYB...i think i want adjustable so i can change the softness to roughness of my ride being that i wanted the softest ride possible. thats why i went with H&R...i don't want to feel every damn pebble on the ground...i have 18s so a stiff combo would not be nice. if i still had stock 16s then i wouldnt care.

i also know that there is a website that shows the best combinations, but i lost the link. besides that i would also like to hear about personal experiences from H&R's and the rest of the setup everyone used. Especially if your a 4th gen on 18's. e-z

kyb agx's will do the job as well, if you dont want to fork out that much.

if you want softest possible ride and money is no object, definetely get illuminas... otherwise you can get tokico blues, but they are not known for their longevity. should be fine with H&R springs though.. btw heres the link you wanted..

The choices for adjustability are the following:

Koni
KYB-AGX
Tokiko Illumina

The rear Konis are only adjustable when removed from the car. Can't adjust the rears once installed.

Does anybody have a shock dyno chart for the Illuminas which detail low, medium, and high velocity rebound and compression damping?

thanks for the info guys...glad for the link again too, i probably saved it as a favorite saving frontpage the first time which i then deleted from favorites. since im tryin to do the job right the first time i think i will be going with the illuminas. the price is hefty but y end up buyin replacement shocks once a cheaper set blows... and besides paying for replacement you have to pay for installation all over again (not something i would try on my own)

I will be having tokico illuminas and H&R's installed on saturday. I will be riding on 18X8's. I have not found anyone so far thats riding on large wheels with the illuminas, but I have drove in a car with AGX and 17's and it didn't feel anything even remotely close to stock. It was pretty harsh. I am hoping this setup is going to work out well and give me a pretty smooth ride. The roads where I am are pretty bad. Otherwise I will be selling my 18's and getting 15's or 16's. I will probably make a post on monday with the results.

i have tokico blues in the front and KYB gr2's in back paired with my H&R's. It rides just like stock (extremely small difference). you need a firmer strut in back, and the gr2's are stiffer than the blues..... i would definitely recommend it (and its also not as expensive as illuminas or agx's). the only problem is that you dont have adjustability, but i didn't need that.

But what size wheels are you riding on? Thats what makes a huge difference. 15s vs 18s is like night and day. Right now I have a 2 inch drop on stock GLE struts and 18's and my ride is unbelieveabley rough. Its nearly unbearable and feels very unsafe, if the roads are not newly paved. With the same stock struts and 2 inch drop and 15's its a little rough when the roads are bumpy but definitely bearable, just a little bouncy. It was a very stupid mistake I made dropping my car 2 inches and not getting after market struts. I don't suggest anyone does it.

I got the Illuminas/H&R combo installed. They are extremely nice. Even with 18's I am getting a near stock ride over the ****ty roads where I live, and I have only tried one of the settings so far. I am extremely happy with them so far.

imo no.. only a little softer than the eibach pro kit I had both, now I'm running eibachs.

those that have illuminas, how do you adjust it? I put mine on yesterday .. theres like a flat head hole that you turn the dial, and beside one of the end there is two white dots, I'm assuming the 2 dots on the side is pointing to the setting?

Yes.

Did you get the dial for the rears that came in the little bag?

And make sure you fix the rear install and get that large seperator back on top of the dust boot.

Then please let us know how the Eibach/Illumina combo rides. It's the only combo I haven't installed or driven in yet.

I have the KYB AGX/H&R combos on my max and i love it. It may be a little bouncey but the ride is smooth majority of the time and the drop is great. The drop feels like it's not to low but i don't have that 4 by 4 look anymore. I have before and after pic on my page:

done the ripple bushing went below where it was suppose to go and I couldn't get it back out, I had to dremel that bushing off and I just finished 11 @ night good thing the illumina gives u new ripple bushing so I used the new one

I only have review of how 3 illumina and 1 agx rides on eibach I bet you've never drove this combo
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=251449

it seems like I'm hitting the bumpstop a lot when the illuminas is on 1/2, its really soft when I hit bumps but on harder bump it goes really soft then HARD :/ I already cutted 2/3 of the stock bumpstops up fronts.

Thanks bro! But I too have the same combination. I've had HR's and Tokico Blues for past 2 years! But the roads here in N.Y.C just keep getting worse and I'm getting sick of my ride more and more! I was wondering if I should change all my HP's to Illuminas? Or perhaps keep my HP's up front and change the rears or vice versa!
