I need a used engine!!! Need Resources...

I just discovered I am going to need a new (used) engine soon for my 96 I30.....I was looking at engines several months ago on the internet and found many 96 engines with under 50k miles for 500 and under....however, I tried searching today and cannot seem to find any of those venders with engines for sale!!! The only one I could find was under 40k for 850, a sunstantial increase from what I saw before....does anyone have any info about where to find good used engines with low miles for 550 or less? thanks!

you might want to post in the I30 forum because....your talking about a I30, not a maxima. the best resource seems to be junk yards. just because a car was in an accident doesnt mean its engine was damaged. it would also be the most cost effective method...instead of getting a dealer replacement engine or something (i dont even know if they do that...but dealers usually charge more for small stuff, so why not an engine) i myself have never needed a replacement engine, so hopefully some more helpful people will post...try searching

I dont see why it would matter where I post.....the I30 and the max have the same engine! thanks though.....I have been looking at salvage ards its just that I cant seem to find the same places I found previously....i.e. sub 50k mile engines for 550 or less.....I found an engine with under 40k miles for 895 but thats a bit more than I want to pay! i mean a month ago I was able to find engines with 60-70k miles for 300-450! where the hell did those go!

not sure if you have been using it or not but try car-parts.com. you can search all the salvage/junk yards in your area.

thanks peoples!!!
I know the I30 peeps might know but I figured posting here would get more views! Not many go to the I30 forums
ok I have found several....

$600+shipping w/ 33k miles
$450+shipping w/ 40k miles
$850 inc. shipping w/ 61k miles & 1 yr warrenty
$650+shipping w/ 53k miles & 6 month warrenty

how much do you all think shipping will be? I mean what range? more than 200?

A lot 150 - 200 or more. They will have to put it on freight.

"You can use any engine up to 2001.
How do you know you need a new engine anyways?"

My mechanic gave me a whole host of things wrong...inluding the lifters and timing chain....basically its about 700-1000 or so in labour + parts....I figure why not just get an engine for 600 or so and installed for total 1300....thats only 300 more and Ill have under 50k miles again (I have 115 now)....and whos ferrari is that!

I know I can get any year engine but I think 1996 would be best since I can upgrade the ecu eventually...isnt the 1996 engine considered better than the others for upgradability?

freight shouldn't be more than $100 for an engine. I've had them shipped halfway across the country for that much.

car-part.com always has tons listed, and in fact do: click me.
