Need some input on a transmission going bad...

I think something might be going wrong with my AUTO. There is a sort of ticking/pulling sound whenever the car is stopped and in drive, and then while accelerating from a stop in the low RPM' in 1st.. It just started yesterday for no apperent reason. Sounds like whatever is being pulled/rotated(maybe a chain of some sort, or plastic gear, doesn't sound like metal) in the shiftbox is making the noise. I'm gonna get a tranny flush but I heard that id the transmission fluid hasn't been changed in more than 60k miles it's safer to leave the old one in than putting in new fluid. That makes no sense to me at all. Anyone with any input please share...

I have to leave guys so if you could bump this every hour or so, maybe the people who know something will wake up soon and they could help. Keep it bumped for them. I need to find a way to get around town as I won't be driving the car. Thanks in advance...

I figured out the problem but still need to know if it's bad to put in new tranny fluid after a long time. I heard it on the radio, a weekly automotive FAQ show. I have a hard time believing it but my parents insist that it's true...

does the sound sound like the disel engine makes ??
and does it only happens when the engine is cold ??
and once it gets warm it goes away -

i have the same sound - i think it could be alternator going bad.....

Is the fluid still in good shape or burnt?

The sound I fixed and it's pretty embarrassing to say but it wasn't even the tranny. The carsound cat(warpspeed) I put on a week or so ago, with the O2 sensor hole on top instead of the bottom, started hitting the frame today. The sound is directly under the shifter so my first thought was it's the shifter linkage. It was a bit weird cause the sound was only there while idling in drive and it sped up while accelerating from a stop. Fortunately it's just the O2, well now the O2 wires might be pinched cause my gas mileage is half that of what it usually is at the 3/4th mark. Sorry for the confusion, I feel dumb now. But I have no idea when the fluid was changed and it's a bit darkish so I'll change it, maybe it'll smooth out the shifts. Thanks for the help guys...

Well the cat has ****ed out on me. I've had my carsound cat on for less than 3 weeks and it's already busted. The honeycomb core came loose and is sliding back and forth while at a stop. It's annoying as hell and I had to put my old busted cat back on. Worst thing is that warpspeed doesn't respond and they don't refund cat converters. Also they installed the O2 sensor hole on top instead of the bottom of the cat. Once again **** them...
