K&N box airfilter, or K&N cone filter w/o tubing?

Okay, so I currently have just a K&N air filter in my car- the box one. I just got a K&N cone airfilter, but it's not a whole intake, just a filter and an adapter so it'd go straight into the engine. Should I hook-up the cone filter now, or get the tubes for the intake, and then hook it up. My roomate says doing it now's pointless. I think it shouldn't really matter cause I'm probably not gonna get the cold air intake anyways. PLEASE let me know what you think so I can decide to hook it up now or not. THANKS!

For the time being (until I get my gunmetal franken car hybrid) I'm using a fairly easy/ghetto set-up. If you wanna wait till you can set it up just take off the bottmom part of the air-box use the drop-in filter but use zip-ties to hold it in place. It works for the time being. Oh well...easy on the flaming guys....I used the recharge kit and man, whatta difference....
