how much do these USB navigation systems go for? i'm also assuming you need some kind of map database software for it, do they have it for mac?

also, the headlights look like they're headed in the right direction.. i know how it is not having any free time, i can barely find time to put gas in my car or wash it, much less mod anymore. don't forget to keep everyone posted on your progress, i wanna see how this turns out.

Well the USB navagation of course has to work along with a computer. But you can get the USB GPS and software at your local Best Buy or Circuit City for ~$130. It works great no matter where you are. (except parts of Alabama that have not been discovered yet.) LOL

well.....i think that once you get it finished, it will look great. As for the gap...im not sure where the gap is located, but why not try using the eyelids that custommaxima sells? you could do a little custom work, and maybe fill the gap with those. Just a thought....

I would also love to see a day pic of those tails too.

I'm not liking the photoshop of the 5-series front end on the max but man if it suits you...go for it. The originality will be there and the satisfaction (hopefully)

you would be better of getting the e36 angel eyes conversion lights there more custom and would fit better....though i feel taking bmw parts on anything but a bimmer is a bad idea....but happy modding bro

Great Job Bro!!!!!!!!!!

Don't listen to those guys!!! Let them hack up their stuff to try and do the same job you did!!! I think it took alot of guts to do that kind of work. I cant wait to see the finished product.
The work you did on your gauges, is that an indiglo kit or did you just change the stock bulbs to LED's?

Good luck on the rest of you HL project>.....

Thanks ... I will try not to get TOO down about what others say ... LOL! I figure that if I can win a couple of shows with my work then it will all pay off in the end. As for my gauges ... they are the 3rd generation reverse indiglo gauges. I also replaced my bulbs to LEDs. If you go to superbrightleds.com they have wedge bulb replacements. I would sugguest getting the 4 LED cluster as opposed to the 1 LED wide angle. These are alot brighter and are positioned perfectly on the maxima to maximimize light output. It really makes the needles and analog meter stand out!

!!!UPDATE!!! ... My interior has gone through a major reconstruction. I have gutted the dash and center console to make room for a 1 piece fiberglass console/dash! With the new dash I am planning on revamping the whole layout of the dash. It will have an 11.3" screen instead of the 10.4" all the way up at the top of the dash to ensure that all the SUVs with their 7" screens get jealous. It will also incorporate a switch panel that will harness all the stock dials and buttons, as well as some of my own switches. All of the air conditioning controls will be located under the custom air vents. The radio will be very close to the original position located below the air controls, but above the switch panel. On the console portion there will be two custom cup holders along with an intergrated mouse. The arm rest will still function as a trash can LOL. Under the passenger airbag will be the home for the new carpc. It will incorporate a removable motherboard tray, removable hard drive bay, cdrw/dvd-rom, plexiglass folding window, and knowing me some sort of fancy white LED display. This project will delay the front end conversion, but hopefully will give the 5 series lights time to come down in price! Later...

Gauge LED's

Are they all 194's or do I need to other types as well? Plus do I need to order the ones with the plastic housing or can I take the original bulbs out of the plastic housings they come in?

i have seen a 2001 accord coupe with the 5 series head lights and it had the 5 series grille. The front looked like the real 5 series while the back looked like an accord coupe.

You can order any of these bulbs (194/168/instrument type) and they will work. I would sugguest using the 4 or 6 led bulb replacements. They seem to be the brightest out of any of them. Good luck with the project!

Max2fast

(P. S. You need 5 bulbs total)

Hey Kashoggio,

Saw on your website the dash lights in red. I am planning doing this mod in a week or two. Could you give the spec's and what brand you used, were you satisfied with results?

Update!!!

Well I have finally done it. I have purchased the e39 headlights. The funny thing is ... they are almost an exact fit. The curve on the fender is identical, and the height is exactly the same. If any of you are planning on doing an r32 conversion, think again. I am going to the body shop tomorrow hopefully to see how well these are going to fit and to see what its going to take to put them on. Here is a picture for your viewing pleasure ...

WooooooooooooooooooooooW bro. those look very very nice.
what yr. e39 did those come off of?
We really need to sit down and have a talk about that PC u mounted in the car. Ru running normal windows envir? I've READ somewhere man that u can actually edit your registry to make it work so we dont always have to start>shutdown>wait> then turn off car....
What did you do to get around this part? wheres ur motherboard and all that stuff located at man?

Also> did u see that car on ebay, the Green/Brown maxima, it has the TV Molded to the dash where the airbag is, cant say its that safe but it did look pretty straight on...

u have a messenger anywhere man? we should talk sometime. ur ideas are right on the tip of my mind.

hmmm, looks kinda odd, but interesting. IMO that grill kinda doesn't sit there, it makes lights visually way too big for a car... you gotta show us the end result, that's somthing unique on a Max..

Max2fast, I think that you should stay away from the grill...the lights alone with a nice '97-99 body color, mb chrome grill would look NICE. That way you maintain the more maxima feeling with some nice *** headlights that make you wonder what kinda car it is...how much were the lights? and how complicated was the whole setup for the pc in your dash?

The lights were $633 shipped on ebay. They are the halogen, but thats not going to stop me from installing HIDs!! The grille was $38 and the computer was around $1000. The computer wasn't all that hard to setup for me since I build computers on the side. It is currently being upgraded to a P4 2.4G-2.8G, 512MB PC4000 DDR, Intel Motherboard w/ USB 2.0, Firewire, SATA, RAID, gigabit and a 11.3" touchscreen. I start body work on Monday. Hopefully it will only take me 2-3 weeks to finish. I will be posting pictures as I take them.

My reply for the grille ... I love the way that they look on the 5 series and I pondered the idea of many grilles, but none of them would look as nice or fit as nicely as the BMW grille. I promise you that it will look good when its finished.

Where did you put the actual pc box? and does that monitor move at all or its stationary? I'd love to try to attempt setting up a pc in my car, I have a whole ****load of spare parts/computers, but the hardest thing I think is actually getting it built into the car

please dont put bmw signature kidney grills on the front of your nissan maxima.. if anything just have a simple grill made of fiberglass or customize the stock grill. Keep the integrity of the car you drive when it comes to things like grills and whatnot..

i've seen the same exact project completed on a 2000 accord coupe. It looked hot!!..
The owner did the front conversion + the accord's front body kit and it looked hot..
At first, it looked like a hooked up 5 series.. but when i saw the back, it was the accord coupe.

Yes, people have done it. But, they were 3rd gen's where the shape of the housings actually matched up decently.

Well that maybe true, but that just means that it takes less talent to make those look decent. So far, I have not seen any drastic changes to the headlight portion of the maxima. I think that it will look better than some of you are expecting. Only time will tell.
