Check Engine Light

I started up my car one day and the 'check engine' light came on and stayed on. The shop cant take a look at it till saturday, but told me it might be my gas cap??!?!?!

anyone ever experience this?

would it come on if my cat was bad, cuz lately I've been smelling that rotten egg smell

check codes yourself (look in my sig) and yes the gas cap can cause this. if its not secure, extra air can get into the system, depressurize it, and even lean out the mixture a little. its been known to trigger the light.

This is NOT the reason that a loose gas cap can trigger a CEL.

The fuel system is sealed and pressurized by its own pump. This is to ensure that all evaporative emissions (gasoline vapors) are contained and controlled by the evaporative emissions control system. A loose gas cap does not allow the system to pressurize properly, setting off the CEL.
